Salary Poll
« on: September 24, 2004, 10:39:16 AM »
This is completely voluntary and i know it's all relative due to age, legnth in the working world, where you live etc.  I just want the plain facts!

Please note money isn't everything. I'm just curious as I'm in the job search process now and am curious to see how people are paid.   :D

I'm job hunting, too, so can't give you a take home pay now, but I can tell you that if I get a job in the field I want, it'll be in the 18-24k range depending upon the company/organization.

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

The sad thing?  The DF has worked at the same company for 10 years and only makes 22K.  Hard to believe that I would make more than him just starting off, but I suppose industry has a lot to do with it....

The problem with my own income is between being taxed at the highest rate due to not having any dependents living with me and the fact I pay child support, I take home less than half of what I make gross.

Also, remember that your wage will be different depending on what part of the country you're in.

Exactly - I'm making about £6-£10,000 p.a. less than I would if I commuted to London.

But I'm home by 5.30 in the evening and I don't have to get out of bed until 7.45 in the morning ... ;D

True enough.  Like Peedal says, I'm making about £10,000 less than I would if I worked in the city.  It would be easier for me to work in the city since I'm very close.  It's also a pain in the ass dealing with packed trains and a jillion people, etc.  I kind of like going against the flow and I'm cool with the job I have anyway.  I work for great people, like everyone in the office, I actually have my own office, which is nice.  So I'm feeling pretty comfortable with where I'm at.  But sometimes, I do get tempted by London salaries!

I work in London and though I have a decent salary (I think I deserve more, but than again who doesn't), the cost of living is a killer.  I pay more than £300 per week for rent and utilities for a 1 BR flat.   OUCH!!!!

And I wouldn't say that my job is any "easier" than a job I'd have in London.  It's the same job.  Just closer to home.
