Thanks ladies...I went in and saw the GP and was asking about going private...she the audiologist I saw has sent a referral off to the ENT and hopefully will see them soon. But I also have a eye appointment on the 15th at the hospital and this person can also refer me on for a MRI..so she wasnt wanting to let me go private in case either of these will order a MRI. And save me several hundred £'s.....I suppose it's headed in the right direction...

I'm a little confused by this.  It sounds as if the GP is at least not totally discounting your concerns now.  So if they agree you may need further assessment, shouldn't he just be referring you to a neurologist?

Hi Cadenza

All I know at this point was back in May my GP said all my symptoms were neurological. She wouldn't commit or comment on what I might have but said she would refer me on to the hospital. Although everyone I come in contact, medically wise, has said it sounds like MS.  :-\\\\

I assumed it would be a Neurologist but I think it's general medicine which is confusing to me. She also referred me to hearing for my balance and also my slight hearing difficulty in my right, again the hearing person was only a audiologist not a ENT, who this audiologist said I should have seen. She has now sent on a letter to the ENT for me to be seen. My balance is not good and I have noticed it gets even worse when I am really fatigued.

I have an appointment with the eye specialist on the 15th and hopefully this doctor can and will refer me on for a MRI.

The doctor I should be seeing in general medicine takes the whole month of August off so I know I won't be getting a letter anytime soon to see him.

Basically I don't know why she hasn't sent me to a neurologist..to save money??? Dunno...

I'm off to the nurse this morning to get my B-12 shot..I was suppose to have it a couple weeks ago so hopefully fingers crossed I may pick up abit. I'm so tired of feeling tired..everyday feels like I'm walking thru treacle... :\\\'(

I truly appreciate all the hugs as well.  :-*

MeShell, big hugs to you.

Any chance you can get support from the local MS Society:

I have spoken to the lady that helps run the local MS Society and she just pointed me to the website, cause until I get diagnosed there isn't much anyone can do for me. I have read loads about it but all the advice I get is to stop reading until I get a diagnosis as it could be totally something different than MS.

I have also joined the forum on the MS Society and posted but again no one can do or help until I get an answer. I am having a hard time waiting on this answer and scared to death that the answer won't be easily given or even dismissed...  :-\\\\

Aw, MeShell. ((Hugs))

What about:

http://shift.ms/

Any chance of referral to counselling to deal with this stress?

I'd check with the GP again to ensure it's a neurology referral:

http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/multiple-sclerosis/pages/diagnosis.aspx

And gets PALS involved if you are having a hard time.

Her answer was to up my night time depression medicine from 50m to 100m in order for me to get better sleep as I can't sleep well cause my arms are asleep all the time and I wake up with them aching. She said she has referred patients on with alot of the same symptoms and it has came back as nothing. I'm sorry but I can't live my life like this for the rest of my life. There IS something wrong with me!

I would not go down the route of counselling as I know how they deal with things over here after dealing with them with my daughter. It's sh*t really.

But thanks anyways for the advice. :-*

Is it worth seeing a different GP perhaps? Second opinion and all that, perhaps they'd be happy to refer you to a neurologist.

I was just at the Dr's office seeing the nurse to get my B-12 shot and I spoke to her about it. It must be a directive here on the IOM that everything has to go through General Medicine to be then refereed onto a specialist. Waste of time in my opinion.

I have rang the General Medicine office up at the hospital and left my details and hopefully the secretary will ring me back today and give me some indication when I will be seen.

I am being more hopefully that the ENT or the Eye specialist will refer me onto a MRI..and at least that will get done. I know that from the time of referral the waiting list is 8 weeks long. I need to get on the list soon!

My DH was diagnosed with MS in 2000.......he has Secondary Progressive.  They had difficulty in diagnosing him because of all the possibilities it could be something else.....at first they diagnosed him with Vertigo or a heart attack.  Then after 2 months he was sent to the eye hospital and they were the ones who detected the first concrete signs of MS.  Then they referred him to the Neurologist who ran some basic tests including copious blood samples, then based on that there were enough indications to refer him for an MRI, lumbar puncture and Evoked responses test.  These 3 tests showed enough to have him diagnosed with a mild MS, or at least that is what they told him.  He said seeing the Neurologist took time and he felt the same way you did....that he needed to know what was going on.......so like I said before he was diagnosed in 2000 and he has never seen a Neurologist since that time.....although he has seen the junior Neurologist 6 times since the diagnosis......he has not seen one in 4 years, he only sees the MS Nurse, who is coming to re evaluate him on the 15th of August as he is now unable to get to the hospital in Pembury to see her.  Anyway hang in there MeShell.....I know the not knowing is very stressful and I do hope that they find you don't have MS as it is a terrible thing to have.....it really changes your life.  Lots of light and love to you and also BIG hugs!!!!!    :)

Thanks Snowlass

I don't want it at ALL but I also know that something is wrong...It's a bit like when I decided to have my gastric bypass....the more information I had the more informed I was the more confidence I had with my decision...
I just want to know so I can move on and deal with it.

I do think that what ever is wrong I have had it awhile but only just now putting incidents together. When they are so widely spaced you don't think much about it but as there are happening more frequently you think ...AH...

Sorry your DH is poorly...and hugs to you as well...

Still waiting..still feel like s*%t..just about able to make it through the day without collapsing. Loads of new things going on as well.

I lost my balance on Saturday and fell down the stairs. I could tell my dexterity in my left hand is off and on Monday reached for a two pint thing of milk..I could see it in my hand but my hand just let it go..it went everywhere.  :-\\\\

My husband found the cheese in the grater drawer after I had used it... ::)

Next week I am hosting 25 people from all over the world that are here for their graduation from the International Space University for their 18month Masters of Business Administration course.

I am going to be out from 8.00am until at least 9.00pm everyday running around..I'm afraid I am just not going to make it.

This is a BIGGIE as far as my career is..... :-[

That sounds really scary, MeShell. What's going on with your referral? Are you the waiting list? If it's getting worse, can you get bumped up?

Oh MeShell, I agree with Chary, how scary!!! Can you not go back to the GP and explain all these things and how scared you are?

Oh I wish you had answers coming to you. The waiting is the worst part.   :-\\\\ :-\\\\
