FOUND: Maple syrup, Aldi
« on: August 29, 2012, 07:06:37 PM »
Not sure if this is common knowledge around here, but Aldi have really reasonably priced maple syrup.  Boyfriend was over the moon when we found it - we had our first pancakes on Monday since moving here 4 months ago.  It's £2.99 for 250 mL, which is equivalent to ~$18/quart.  That's not bad comparing it to prices in the US: Shaws ~ $16, Costco ~$13 and from a sugar shack in Vermont ~$20-22.  (Yes, I know a little too much about this!).

That's good to know as I have a rare Aldi trip planned in the near future. I use their dishwasher tabs as they are cheap and Which? rated them better than the expensive brands, but I only go once in a while to stock up. I've been meaning to buy some maple syrup anyway.

How is the taste?

Hmm, I've never seen it there before, although I haven't really looked. We shop at Aldi every week so I will keep my eyes peeled this week.

Courtney, I recently won a prize hamper from Aldi which included THREE boxes of their dishwasher tabs....I don't have a dishwasher. ;D I have although found they are great for soaking really burnt on sticky foods. I had to laugh when I opened the prize box!

Three - well, yeah, we have to stock up, who knows if it will be there next time we go!

I'd rate the taste as a medium amber.  I'd normally prefer it a little darker.

Is that for proper maple syrup and not 'high fructose maple butter flavoured fake kind' ? That's a pretty good price! I <3 Aldi!

I was wondering the same thing!

I buy my maple syrup at Tesco and it's about £5 for a bottle - I think it might be larger than 250ml, though. I very rarely use it, so it doesn't work out to cost very much in the long-run, but I'd be happy to find the real deal for less!

I find that real maple syrup is available in most supermarkets, but i prefer the fake stuff and can no longer find it anywhere.

I'm trying to remember how much the maple syrup at the UK Costco costs.  I'm pitiful and have been making the fake stuff with mapeleine from home.  I know it's ridiculous, but it's the taste from my childhood, so it hasn't been bad for me.  I've been toying with going over to proper maple syrup though.

Think I bought this just after they had the American stuff recently and might have been left over from previous weekly specials
