Reading/Newbury area?
« on: November 09, 2012, 05:02:25 PM »
Hello all

I'm the American half of an across-the-pond partnership--she's the UK half. We live between Reading and Newbury and have been in the area for around 8 years. She's from "up North" and I work for myself, so meeting new people is always a bit tricky, especially as we don't have kids and everyone our age seems to.

Just thought I'd drop a line and see if there is anyone in the area of the expat persuasion. Would be nice to have a bigger network of aliens to communicate with--perhaps even the type who like American football.

Thanks!

I was in Newbury.  Moved to the states earlier this year but planning on moving back to Newbury next fall.  I met a couple of Americans there. I hear there is a garage in Newbury ran by an American. There's bound to be more Americans in Reading.

I'm UKC living with my wife USC in the US for the last 15 years but have a final job interview about starting with a company back in Newbury.  Give me a few weeks to sort out the jobs and I might bring you a new American to talk to :)

That sounds great. It would be nice to meet up with other Americans.  Do you happen to know of any other Americans in th area who would like to possibly meet up?

Maybe Casey girl would be interested, she's in Ascot?

I think we should pick a date and set a Berkshire meet up and see who can come, what do you think?

Yeah, that's a great idea. We would be in for something like this.

Well hello everyone!

I haven't checked this site in a few months and all the yanks in Berkshire seem to have come out of the woodwork. Great to know I'm not alone in these parts.

Sounds like everyone is up for a meetup at some stage, so anyone have suggestions? I'm 6 weeks post-knee op, but up for anything short of bull riding (there may be Texans in the mix) or a windsurfing (in case there are Californians around).

Thanks to all for replying,

Amy

Well, It does seem there are a few of us in the area who would to meet up. Does anyone have any ideas where we can meet up that would be suitable for a small party? Depending on the size of the meetup and where everyone is coming from we can always adjust locations accordingly.

We have 4 in my family and live near Warfield/Binfield. We have no problem with a little travel to meet up with everyone as we are always open to seeing new places.

Maybe everyone who is interested can reply to this thread or email me directly at fahnlanderuk@gmail.com and hopefully we can put something on the calendar that works for everyone.

Cheers

I'm the US half as well and my husband-to-be/our house is located in Reading. I should be there by Nobember this year :) If you ever feel like chatting, feel free to drop me a message! It'll be nice to know some people (especially another American that might make me feel a bit at home) in the same area as me that aren't because of my spouse when I get there  :D I haven't been to Newbury (that I've realized at least hah) but Reading is a really great place IMO! Lots of fun bars to go to. If you're looking for another guy to hang out with, my DF may be down to hang out. He works shifts so he has days when all his friends work and he just sits around bored. He isn't huge on sports (especially american ones) however :p
My, how time flies....

* Married in the US and applied for first spousal visa August 2013

* ILR applied for January 2019 (using priority processing). Approved February 2019.

:D Hi, I haven't checked in on this forum for months so missed all the replies to the post!  I'm still in Newbury/Reading area and would love to be included in a meet up.  Was anything organised?
