What are some foods that you wouldn't  expect to find the US that you have come to love (or hate) in the UK?

Not sure if it was just my household but we never had parsnips in the US but have it all the time in the UK and love it!

It was probably just your household--had parsnips all the time in the US, they're usually right next to the carrots!

It was probably just your household--had parsnips all the time in the US, they're usually right next to the carrots!

I tried to find parsnips to make lentil soup for my grandma in the US and we had a tough time finding parsnips in her (pretty large) supermarket.   :-\\\\  The guy working in the fresh food section didn't know what we were talking about and I had to describe it to him.   ???  Eventually, we found them...... with the other 'exotic' food!  :P  Grandma and I had a good laugh over that.   ::)

Another vote for Branston Pickle. I LOVE IT! No one else in the house does though...weird.That's ok, more for me  ;D

02/24/2012-UK settlement visas issued :)
03/12/2012-Arrive in MAN UK :)

A lot of common UK veg is available, but also very expensive in parts of the US.
 
I know around my parents and friends, leeks, proper turnips (i.e. purple tops), and parsnips are available, but extortionate, except for a few times of year when the CSA and Farmers markets have them readily available and even then, charge a premium.

They're cheaper here because they quite happily grow here with our mild(ish) winters.  Likewise, why other veg is quite expensive here (sweetcorn, tomatoes, peppers, etc) since it needs to be imported or grown in greenhouses down in the south coast or grown in greenhouses in the height of summer. 
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

Oh dear, SO MANY foods here that I love.

All over the parsnips.  Not sure how I lived without them before.

I am a "cookie-a-holic" and I love all the different kinds of cookies/biscuits in the UK.  Personal faves are custard cremes and Jammie Dodgers.

Indian curries.  Yes, we had indian restaurants in the US but they weren't popular like they are here.

Another one here who didn't really have parsnips in the US - didn't grow up with them, didn't know what they were, etc... Nobody I knew ate them either.

I saw them in a Florida grocery store once & decided to try. Those parsnips were really thin/narrow, like carrots - ended up being kind of woody & didn't taste very nice. I didn't know what to do with them, so I think I boiled them like carrots. I didn't really like them, then.

I put parsnips in lentil soup. 

Lentils (of course), potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, leek, spring onion, tomatoes and spices.  And parsnips.  :)  Nom nom nom.  :) 

Melt some cheese on top and eat with crusty bread..... mmmmmm..... especially if it's chilly outside.... mmmmmm......

Another parsnips lover. I also love aubergines, leeks and am a sucker for certain traditional British foods (despite not eating meat, Quorn is a godsend)- pasties, cottage pie, cheese and chutney, Yorkshire puds (oh bliss), Sunday roast. English cheeses have also stolen my heart, I love trying new cheeses and always have mature Cheddar and Lancashire in my fridge. I've also become a lover of Thai, Middle Eastern/N.African and Indian food, I'm not sure how I lived without Thai in my life.

I am also addicted to biscuits- hobnobs, digestives (chocolate or plain), bourbon cream, jammy dodgers. Things that will never win me over- jellied eels (why?!), marmite (boo!), haggis.

Parsnips and lamb. I know you can find both in the US, but we never had either in my house. My mom is very anti-lamb. Now I don't know how I ever lived without them.
