What. the. F***?!
« on: March 27, 2013, 01:47:53 PM »
what is going on the weather here?  i'm certain when we last lived here from 2002-2004, we had a decent enough amount of sunshine.  i know we've moved at the worst time - December, but I've seen about...7 total days of varying degrees of sun.  it's really depressing me, and hubs too!

so, my question, how wonderful is it really to raise kids close to family?  b/c if they weren't here, i think we'd definitely go back to the US.  little one is on the way, but I'm not sure how much more grey i can take.  although it gets colder in NYC, at least the sun comes out frequently.

 [smiley=end.gif]

really though, i love everything else about being here (aside from expenses), but i think the weather may be a big enough lure to repatriate.

I don't know but I'm wondering temperature wise what is going on here. I lived in Michigan all my life, where the weather was way more extreme (way more snow, a lot colder in the winter). Yet I feel like I have never been so cold in my life as I have been since I moved to the UK in December. I'm just freezing, ALL THE TIME. It doesn't look like it's warming up anytime soon either. I thought Michigan was bad but right now its about 15 degrees(fahrenheit) warmer there. I too feel like I haven't seen the sun in weeks, it is pretty depressing. So much for the first day of "Spring"!

I just bought a bunch of Spring blouses, skirts, and dresses and I'm so eager to wear them! Though right now I can't even be somewhat comfortable unless I'm wearing a thick sweater with a scarf and gloves. My husband and I even sit around the house in our coats sometimes!  :P

I am am just really hoping for a bit of sun and/or warmer temperatures to get me out of this gloomy mood  :-\\\\

I *love* colder weather and even overcast days, but even I am sick of the cold, snow, no sun and general gloominess. I used to walk to town several times a week when the weather was decent, but I've only been a handful of times since January.

I bought a shorter, light wool coat that I was sure I'd be wearing by now. :(  I'm sick of wearing so many layers and my big wool coat, scarf, gloves, etc.

It doesn't have to get to 70 for me. Even 55 would be nice!

It's unseasonably cold, that's why everyone's moaning and going on about it. First white Easter for 5 years and all that.

Although you don't normally get much sun between December and March at the best of times, it's England.
In England Jan and Feb are normally the coldest months and March is normally as cold as November.

There's at least another month of it to go, so get some more jumpers.

Horrible! Worst March snowfall here in 34 years.  :o  Ugh.  :(

The first few years I lived here, at least summer didn't seem too bad. But we've not even had a good run of those for a few years now.  :\\\'(

It's funny when I hear old timers here talk about how they used to have such red hot summers...and I'm thinking, in what universe?! Lol!  :P

I don't know if it is rose tinted glasses but I definitely remember this! Also at uni I would work summers and finish work at 5pm and my friends and I would bask and drink in the sun every night for WEEKS.

When I was a kid it snowed every five years or so, now it snows every year and summer lasts a week :/

I really miss all that eating dinner outside in the sun malarky.

I think it's climate change - here, we're going to freeze & drown (or be buried in a snowdrift). In the US, you're going to burn up for 3-4 months at a go.

Take your pick.  [smiley=blank.gif]

On one of my trips here, I left Philly when the heat index was 115F. I arrived at Manchester airport and it was 65. It was glorious. :)  A few weeks later, I emailed photos to my parents. They wanted to know in what universe do people wear jackets in *August*. :D

Remembering all those incredibly hot, humid and sticky summers back home, where my makeup slid off my face as soon as I stepped outside and a short walk was enough to make me nauseated, I'll stop grumbling about the cold. I love it. :)

i hope you're right cause that would be an easy choice, having been born in texas [smiley=cowboy.gif]  it's just so easy to get about in the summer!  flip flops, skirt, vest top, done!  in the cold, it's 5-minute prep.  and getting a baby ready as well...what a mission!

jenny_ell, congrats on getting married!  i know how you feel about bundling up in the flat!  our heating bill last month was £188...for the month!  my place when i'm not out and about teaching pilates is smashed up against the radiator in my largest sweater.

on the bright side, i haven't had to buy any new maternity clothes yet cause the sweater situation is working out just fine!

...it was snowing here in bristol 30 minutes ago when i went to get groceries.  [smiley=dizzy2.gif]

The cold gets frustrating when I want to go shopping for new clothes but I can't be bothered to take off the million layers I'm wearing to try things on.......   ::)

I always felt cold in Scotland as well, but I attributed it to the damp more than the actual temperature. It's a different kind of cold and it manages to just get right down into your bones. Sort of like how dry heat tends to be a bit more bearable than the wretched, oppressive humidity we get here in certain parts of the US.

March is generally cold-ish, but not like this! This is definitely unusual. But then last March was unusual too - I was sunbathing in the garden wearing short and a tank top this time last year!

HI LADIES! It is my fault.

I moved over in September of 06 and it is has been terrible ever since.

We are considering moving to another country this year, so next year should be awesome.

Stay tuned.

This time last year was a bit odd though because we had 23 degrees and sunny over the weekend and then there was snow in Shropshire on the Tuesday! I was forecasting near Shrewsbury the week after the warm weather and I had to issue overnight snow warnings... There was about 2 cm of snow on the ground just 2 days after the hot weather!
