I Don't Much Like British Beer
« on: June 19, 2013, 10:27:21 PM »
I know, people think I'm sick. British beer is among the finest in the world, right? I've had plenty of British beer that I've liked alright, but the thing is, I don't much care for "serious" beer. I like American soda-pop beer. My favorite beer is Natural Lite. I find it to be clean and refreshing.

So I wonder, does anyone here have any ideas about how I might go about getting Natural Lite sent to me in Hastings, Sussex?

I know they sell Coors Lite and possibly Michelob Light. Would those work? I think you might be out of luck with the Natty Light!

Blasphemer!! :o  ;)

Well I did see Bud Light in Tesco last week- quite expensive though.  You can also find stuff like Sam Adams and Blue Moon, but no Natty Light.  What about all types of lagers though? Those are everywhere - though not American stuff except Budwiser.

Hi CharmCityGirl. First of all, Coors Lite is disgusting. Now Michelob Light, that may work. I'll try it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi phatbeetle. Bud Lite's pretty good. Expensive, you say? Well, that sucks. I wonder how much it would be at an Aldi. There's going to be a new Aldi in Hastings, not far from where we'll be living.

I agree, Coors Lite is disgusting! And so it Natural Light!  :P My husband said they sell Miller. I've seen Budweiser, but not sure I've seen Bud Light. Oh, and if Coors Light isn't disgusting enough, they tend to pour it over ice (at least that's what they would do in Ireland). It was extra gross. Have you tried Staropramen? It's Czech. That's a nice, light refreshing beer. Also, Budvar, which is another Czech beer. Both of those might make good replacements.

I've never heard of Natural Light before... who brews that?

If you only like 'American soda pop beer' (hey, at least you admit knowing it's not real  beer!), you might try the generic/plain-wrap/store brand lagers in the supermarket... you know, the ones that just say 'lager' on the label and not much else.  They're pretty much soda pop, at only 2.5% ABV.

Are you at all interested in learning to like 'serious' beers?

Not sure I'd say Staropramen and Budvar are replacements....those are both tasty beers.
I'm not sure I can post in this thread! I thank the original poster for starting a new thread rather than posting in the beer thread.
Not seen Coors Light poured over ice in the UK.

Could try Lech or Tyskie, Polish beers and they are widely available here.

Seems like the OP likes beers with very little/extremely subtle/more fizz than flavour.... in which case, i also wouldn't recommend Budvar or Staropramen, which both have a strong, distinctly Czech flavour.

I've never had Natural Light but how about Carling? or Stella?? I like beer, but I only drink it occasionally now because of the calories...but I prefer a good Ale to a lager. That being said...when its hot...I like some cider  ;D

It took me a while to adjust to cider.  At first it really hurt my teeth.  Lately there have been local offerings on tap that aren't too sweet, not super high alcohol content and rather refreshing.

Also, I've been trying out all the (alcoholic) ginger beers - most are better over ice or cut with water, some are almost too spicy.  Sainsbury's does a nice one, by far my favorite.
...the whole damn thing will turn
and return redefined, rearranged, rearranged...

I guess it's been a looooooong time since I've had a Natural Light! I wouldn't say either of those beers are particularly strong in flavor, but they probably are compared to the Nascar beers.  :P

Oh, well, when I lived in England before I drank what I guess you'd call serious beer. When I went to see my in-laws I drank the beer my father-in-law had, and I know he had serious beer. And I came to like it fine, I guess. I also gained about thirty pounds!

I don't want that to happen again.

I don't know if it makes any difference, but Natural Lite is a pilsner or pale lager.

I used to like Harp lager but haven't seen it anywhere lately (?)  DS drinks cider, either Strongbow or Magner's.

Here's a good list of beers you can find in Tesco currently -  and you can also compare other supermarkets....

In the pubs, well that's a bit different and you'll have to look around for something you'd like
