Well I will have to stuff a spoonful in your gob then! It's like a jelly/jam kind of thing, made with cranberries. Although some people also do make fresh cranberry relish type things that will have bits of things like orange zest & so forth in them. I was going to make fresh but the Ocean Spray jar stuff was £1 at Morrisons, they didn't have cranberries & in any case I don't think I could buy them for that little. Plus the people who come here aren't that fussed over their cranberry sauce, I don't think! It's all about the turkey.  :)

Phatbeetle--You remind me of Wallace (from Wallace & Gromit). "Nothing like a little bit of Wensleydale" or "Don't forget the crackers, Gromit!"  ;D

This is exactly why I am on a quest for Wensleydale!  ;D The Christmas season before last, while still in the UK, we decided to have a cheese board with crackers and some deli meats for lunch, about a week before Christmas. As we were getting ready to eat, hubby was flipping channels and found a Wallace & Gromit show just starting so we watched it. We decided then and there to make it a yearly tradition to have a 'Wallace & Gromit Cheese Day', as we jokingly call it. Last year we had so many options I really didn't think about Wensleydale, but this year it is on my mind. We will be fine without it, but it just sounded like fun, since it is the W&G cheese.

The jar stuff sounds very scary and maybe explains why I have always avoided it - besides, I think I may have seen some with gelatin in it, so also sometimes not vegetarian, though I could be wrong. It sounds like the jar stuff is no way to convert anyone from what some of the others are saying.  :-\\\\ :-X

It's far from scary. In fact, it's pretty bland and dull. You won't find gelatin in it - it's just made the same way you'd make strawberry or raspberry jelly/jam. Cranberries are high in pectin, so no setting agents are needed.

Still, the homemade stuff is MUCH nicer.

Ok, not so bad. Will give it a go, with low expectations.  ;)

The jar / canned stuff is awesome for sandwiches though.  Not as messy.

You can smear some on a roll like jam. Don't worry, I won't poison you! You can make some fresh cranberry sauce & bring it to the do if you'd like. It's not hard to make and with Waitrose nearby you, you're more likely to find the cranberries readily. :)

I like the jar stuff - it tastes like cranberries. :)

And I also like homemade so if anyone volunteered to bring homemade cran, that'd be fabulous too! :)

Oh, I don't think I'd like that! Most people (as far as I know) use it on a sandwich with leftover turkey and stuffing. It's nice with cheese too.

Oh that's a good idea too - cheese, I've never tried it with that. I've always put it on turkey sandwiches or on a dinner roll, etc. It's versatile! :)

I have always bought my fresh cranberries at Tesco, Ocean Spray even, but that is usually closer to Christmas. M&S has them as well.

Yeah Morrisons has them *sometimes* & strangely had a few bags several weeks back near Halloween, so I just assumed they would closer to time. Just one of those supermarket supply things...  ::)

Anyway, they didn't when I went back, and then I thought about the mountains of other stuff I'll be preparing and cooking for 15-20 peeps, saw the £1 jars of cran & used my standby - there's good and then there's good enough. One less thing to make, yay! :)

Waitrose has had frozen cranberries from time to time.  I used to freeze a bag of the fresh ones so as to make cran bread or whatever through the year.

Alas, DS will eat only the canned Ocean Spray jelly kind but we always used to make a cran/orange relish as well for general consumption.  Really easy.
