I've been to Sainsbury's and a bunch of other stores but can't find large containers of moisturizing lotion like we have in the US.   It seems British people use liquid bath soaps that have moisturizer in them.    Has anyone seen large containers of Lubriderm or such here?   I've seen small containers but it seems like they use it just for hands.

Also, what's up with no paper towels in bathrooms and no toothpicks in restaurants?   I have yet to find them anywhere.

Most restrooms have air hand driers which are more hygienic and Eco friendly. You should be able to find large bottles of moisturizer at the supermarket or at Boots or Superdrug, and toothpicks are plastic and sold in the dental section. I don't find much if a difference in what I can buy in the UK except for the price.

Most restaurants in my area of the US no longer have toothpicks or towels in the bathrooms either.  They tend to have the air hand dryers in the bathrooms, and I carry my own "toothpick" type things to use if food gets caught between my teeth.

As for the moisturizer, someone living in the UK will have to address that one.

You probably won't find Lubriderm, but there will be something similar... I've got a Johnson & Johnson one just now.

Most people carry their own toothpicks/flossing sticks.  I don't know why someone would expect a restaurant to supply this.

Wooden toothpicks are called cocktail sticks and are sold near party stuff (paper plates, cups, etc).

I use Soap and Glory lotion or cocoa butter, both of which come in pretty large containers at Boots. Superdrug would have something too. My husband uses E45, which can be found everywhere I think. And there's always the internet when you can't find what you need, I use a specific website for all my natural hair care needs. Um, I don't really use toothpicks or expect them to be in restaurants, to be honest. And paper towels can be found in some places, depends where you go, I guess. I prefer Dyson airblade hand dryers, they make me feel like I'm in the future.
It is difficult to speak adequately, or justly, of London. It is not a pleasant place; it is not agreeable, or easy, or exempt from reproach. It is only magnificent... the biggest aggregation of human life, the most complete compendium in the world.

The lack of paper towels doesn't bother me. I just wish more places would have mixed taps...

Seriously!  I had that when I was in a rental.  I never could figure out how to wash my face.  The water was either scalding or icy cold...   ::)

I too have had this complaint, and was instructed to plug the sink, turn on both taps  to achieve a suitable temperature, and fill the sink until you have enough just-right water.  I agree it's not the most convenient way of working, but at least it's something?

Same here! My very first experience with one was actually in the restroom of the Louisville airport on my way to the UK one trip. I was so excited when I saw them in the UK too. I felt like a kid with a new toy!

I wonder if the toothpick thing is a health and safety issue. Where I work (in the US) we are not allowed to have them sitting out because they have been deemed dangerous by some powers that be, because they have sharp ends. I think that is a bit over the top, but in a sue happy world, I suppose every precaution has to be taken.

We had them first! Dyson is a British company.

I used one first when they were trial-ing it at the Eden Project. I was amazed!
