Lazy shopper
« on: November 03, 2004, 01:17:32 PM »
Yesterday I did my first online shop. I did the weeks shopping on Tesco.com. I was surprised how easy it was. I got everything I would have gotten from the store if I would have gone in person but I didnt have to pack my own bags which is embarrassing because even after 4 years of living here Im RUBBISH at it and also I didnt have to drag my 5 month and 2 year old with me. I only paid £3.99 for the delivery to my front door. Im quite pleased and will probably do most my grocery shopping online now. Has anyone else done online shopping? Is TESCO the only one who offers it? I like ASDA prices but never go there because of the mobs of people and parking problems but wouldnt mind online shopping with them.

We used to do online shopping all the time when we didn't have a car. We mostly used Iceland for their frozen and canned goods, juices, etc- but Waitrose does it as well (they are a bit more expensive). Very handy indeed!

We get an ASDA delivery every two weeks.  It's been such a godsend because I HATED grocery shopping when I first moved here (no car!  ugh!).  Seriously, were it not for grocery deliveries, I might be back in the US by now.  There's just something about having to get a taxi home from the grocery store that seemed really skanky and way too much hassle for me...DH and I ended up in a huge fight after every shopping trip because I had a fit at the inconvenience of it all.  And of course I refused to let him go shopping by himself because I wanted to go too!   ::)

So yeah, ASDA deliveries all the way!   ;D  It's really great for heavy things like tinned stuff and bottles of soda...nice to only have to put it away rather than lug it home AND put it away!

I will give ASDA a try next week.
I totally understand about the taxi to the grocery store. I have always had a car here but when I lived in Korea for a year I had to depend on taxis and public transport for everything. I hated waiting for a taxi with my cart full of groceries and melting ice cream :)

Hi, my name is Kristin and I am a lazy shopper too.

I have used Tesco.com for almost the whole four years I have been here.  The one year I didn't it was because the shopper at the store that delivered to me was horrble--bruised fruit, all the meat dated that day, and damaged boxes.  I absolutely love it!!!!!!  Not having to drag shopping and two toddlers on the bus or calling for a taxi which is more expensive than the £3.99 delivery fee.  I only wish that ASDA delivered in my area so I could save some extra money.  The best side effect is that I don't pick up tempting, delicious, but oh so bad for me foods.

LOL! I agree! I am the worst impulse shopper in the world. Ill probably spend at least £15 each time I go shopping on impulse items. It makes my husband nuts! :)

Forgot to add this--

Don't know if other stores do this, but ASDA has a place online where you can type in a receipt number and everything you bought will pop up on the screen.  That way you can purchase stuff that isn't normally available online!  Really convenient for random things like nail polish remover!  :D

I started doing my grocery shopping online a few years ago when I was working around the clock and had no time or energy to get to the shops. I used to order it online from work and get it delivered after I (eventually) got home. I was also travelling abroad a lot for work and it meant I could order it from wherever I was to be delivered for the day I got back or whatever, very handy. Now I am still doing it online because it is just blimmin' easier! Especially now with a young baby.

I have used Waitrose (Ocado), Sainsburys and Tesco in the past but now generally use Tesco as they seem to have a lot of good deals plus I joined their mother and baby club and they keep sending me coupons!

The only thing I don't like about it is that you don't know til they deliver if something is in stock or not, and if it's not you still have ot go out and search for it. I also don't buy all our fresh produce online because you never know what the quality is going to be like.

Yes and I am another unfortunate not in an Asda delivery area :(

Oh and I did a lot of baby related shopping online whiile I was pregnant too - Mothercare and Babies R Us both have a delivery service. In fact most major department stores do it now, including M&S.

I love online shopping !!!!!!!!

I don't like that as well.  I know that even when I went shopping I wasn't always assured of getting what I wanted.  It was a huge frustration to me since it rarely happened in the US but every time I went shopping here.

The substitutions are sometimes hilarious!!   I have even had no substitutions for 3 weeks in a row.  I would like to see anyone beat that. ;)

I heard about someone who ordered some bread only to get a bag of flour and a packet of yeast!

I just thought of something else - Tesco sometimes gives me stuff I never ordered, recently we have had lamb chops, 2 huge multi packs of walkers crisps, frozen onion rings and frozen chicken nibbles. The first time it happened I tried to give it back to the driver but he insisted it was for me so now I just keep the stuff.

They also send the odd free sample of various things which is nice.

This happens to us, too!  In our last delivery, we got six rolls of paper towels and two packages of hot cross buns we never ordered!   :D

My driver would take things back if I caught them when he was there.  When I lived in London the driver even came back to pick up two bags of food that wasn't mine.

Now I have to figure out how to use the 5 k bag of potatoes that were substituted in my shopping yesterday before we leave for the US in a couple of weeks.  My husband is the only one who likes them very much.

I'm a huge fan of online shopping. We only have one car and Jamie hates to shop, so this is really the best option! Plus we stick to our budget much more easily!

We've tried everyone but ASDA (they don't deliver to our area for some reason) and had the best luck with Ocado (Waitrose.) I found Tesco to be constantly late and Sainsbury's were the WORST - they never delivered what I wanted (and sometimes didn't even have a substitute), always squished the bread, and once was an hour and a half late!!!! But I really like Ocado.

Tesco are always on time for me now since I rang up and complained when they were nearly 2 hours late and left half of my shopping behind at the store! Sainsbury's was terrible, one Friday night they were over 2 hours late and I had rung them about 4 times, eventually they said, sorry it's 10.30pm it's too late to deliver it to you now, we'll bring it tomorrow. Then the driver shows up about an hour later, ie 11.30pm!! Then the next day another driver turned up!! I was tempted to just take the stuff and keep quiet about it but I didn't. I stopped using Sainsbury's after that.
