Trouser Emergency! Where can I find jeans that fit me?
« on: October 02, 2014, 12:42:45 PM »
I have a pressing issue -- it's October and I haven't got a single pair of long trousers or jeans that fits. I left most of my clothes (most of everything, really) behind in the US and made it through summer with a couple of pairs of capris. Due to a health issue I've had no chance to go shopping the last couple of months, and now I find myself at the beginning of October with nothing to wear on my bottom half!

I need jeans and/or khakis first and foremost, thus I throw myself upon your mercy: I need to find a shop in the UK that sells decent, straightforward jeans in plus sizes with longer leg options. (I need a minimum of a 31" inseam, but prefer it even longer.)

In the US I usually wore an 18. Size charts are telling me I should be wearing a 24 based on my waist size, but when I tried on khakis and jeans at M&S the ones that fit best were only 20s. (They fit very poorly, though -- they were all baggy in the crotch and the tops of the thighs.)

I'm an apple shape, with a round belly and flat bottom, so I'm always hard to fit -- I used to wear men's jeans a lot, and would be perfectly happy with them if I knew who sold them by waist size/leg length with a waist larger than 42".

Any advice would be *greatly* appreciated!

Evans starts at size 14 here. I'm afraid I'm not much help as to whether they'll work for your shape or not, but they should at least cater for the size. I saw some very stretchy skinny jeans in there the other day and generally a really good variety of jeans, so it might be worth a look

Yours is my go to store for nearly all of my clothes. I still have to hem all of the trousers that I buy, but that's because I'm short and capris will reach my ankles!  ;D

Old Navy & Lands End both ship to the UK and both have bigger sizes if you can wait to have pants shipped over :)

Is it only M&S you have tried?  I think it should be *relatively* easy to find US 18 clothing. It's if you're going up any size higher than that it becomes really hard.

What's your kind of budget range?

I found a  great pair of jeans that fit me very well at Tesco, believe it or not. (Probably the best pair of jeans I own and I get compliments when I wear them!)

I get my trousers at Monsoon and Boden. They are a bit pricey, but good quality and good fit for me. FYI, though, I am a pear with wide hips and big bum. You could also try ASOS Curve. Their prices are pretty low though I find that the quality is not great and the trouser sizes run a bit small. Gap also ships in the UK and has larger sizes online.

There's even a Land End's store in the UK!  Yours and Evans are both options to try.  Good luck with your search!

Since Old Navy stuff fits me very badly, I ordered a pair each from Evans and Land's End UK -- we'll see how the sizing turns out. Free shipping on both orders, so I've got nothing to lose! Thanks for the excellent advice, all! I found some other cute things on sale on both websites in the bargain  ;D

I can't help you with clothing problem but I can try to help. Where in England?  Maybe you could help me. I am hoping to move to England. Dont know where to begin with visa's. I have some one there who can hire me as a caregiver but don't think I can apply for a working visa. Should I sart with visitor visa or go there on my passport and apply for visas there?  Any advice or suggestions what to do. Would like to go there for the new year?  Any suggestions would be helpful. Or if you know anyone I could talk to. Thanks. My name is Mo.

So -- where is this Lands End store then?  I've seen that they are supposed to be part of Debenham's but certainly not in any Debenham's near me.  I've just ordered some LE shoes online -- would be nice not to have to pay the shipping.

You need to start your own thread.  No, you can't qualify for a visa as a caregiver.  You also cannot change to any other type of visa from a visitor visa.

The big store is in Oakham, Rutland (LE15 postcode).  It looks like there are a couple other outlet stores in the UK, as well as one in Germany.

Along these lines - are there tall panty hose here? I used to buy them in the US but I've not seen them in two years here. Someone told me to buy a bigger size and that would fix my issue. I have tried buying two sizes too big and the crotch is still at my upper thigh and I have to penguin around.
Keepin' it real. Real annoying.
