Don't rush on my account, I won't make them any time soon.

Did you guys ever make the wierd water gel stuff with the chemicals I sent?  We brought the chemicals with us on holiday and made some good ones:

We did and I was disappointed my daughter couldn't care less. But she was having a bad day so we'll try again! Me on the other hand loved it lol

I just found what I think are potato & cheese pierogi at Tesco, and I've never had the will to make my own.  So I ordered two packets (2 for £2) and am giving it a go.  Unfortunately, they don't get here 'til tomorrow because online shopping.  But if these are anything like the ones I used to get in Cleveland, I'm going to be happy.   :P

Let us know how those are? I LOVE pierogi.

Oh, yeah. Dinner.  Fresh wheat bread and stew.

Stew being the munchkin-cow Tesco brisket (like .8 of a Kilo) one potato cut up, two carrots cut up, one onion cut up, two chicken and one beef bouillon cubes (smushed up), a cup of hot water, a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, some salt, smoked paprika, three cloves garlic (smushed and diced), one tablespoon of flour (added halfway through) and left to cook overnight in the crockpot.  It came out really well.

Bread is so easy to make here - was wondering why the yeast I'd gotten at Waitrose was so hyper and looked on the label and then did some research. Seems they add vitamin C to it - which makes whatever fluid you put it in to bloom more acidic (the yeast seems to love that) and, thus, it blooms faster and stronger than "regular" yeast. (Too bad the oven heat kills the vit. c.) But for a small loaf it's like 3 cups mixed wheat and strong white flour, 1/2 tablespoon of honey, 1/2 tablespoon of yeast (mixed with slightly less than 1 cup of warm water and the honey),  a bit of salt.  Once the yeast blooms, mix everything together in a bowl, turn out and knead it through five renditions of "Oh, Lord, Won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz" song and then into a greased bowl covered with a cloth, in a warm place, to raise. When doubled, repeat the process. Then place as a rounded loaf on cornmeal on the baking stone (or pan), set oven to about  180 Fan, and it cooks in about 30 minutes.  Brushing the crust with melted butter when it first comes out of the oven makes it yummier.

I'm going to weigh a ton before Christmas, at this rate!~

We had a bag of potstickers in the freezer, so that was our dinner.

When you were asking about places to get spices, I mentioned a big Chinese supermarket up at Dobbies Loan... that's where I get my potstickers.

But less of a trek, there's a small Chinese supermarket just about at the junction of Byres Road and Dumbarton Road toward Partick...  they have a freezer at the back, which used to contain various dumplings and dim-summy type things.  It's been 3 or 4 years since I've been there, but might be worth a look.

You've also got the Dumpling Monkey restaurant if you don't want to cook your own... that's at the same junction, but the other direction, toward town.

Kids can be so temperamental.  I'm sure that if I had suggested it, and pulled the chemicals out of an envelope rather than buying it, my daughter probably wouldn't have cared.  Since it was her idea, she's an evangelist.

Did yours turn out with nice bubbles like the pic?  Did you eat it?

Back when I had a kitchen, I'd occasionally plan a stir-fry for dinner.  My husband would always look disappointed when I told him that's what we were having, unless I also had the gyoza that Ocado/Waitrose sells to go with it.

Let us know how those are? I LOVE pierogi.

We had pierogi last night as the main in an otherwise odd meal of "we have to eat this because it's near the end of its life" date.  I like my pierogi shallow-fried, and I can't remember what I used to dip them in, but I think it was US-style sour cream ... which I can't quite replace over here, so I would normally use creme fraiche, but I didn't last night because by the time we got to the pierogi, I wasn't really hungry so I knew I'd only be eating a few and couldn't be bothered to get the creme fraiche for so few.  Is it possible I used to eat pierogi with marinara sauce?  That's another possibility.

The Tesco-bought (can't remember the brand) pierogi filling was nice.  I found the pasta outside a bit too thick and... I dunno... it wasn't bad, and my husband happily ate almost a whole packet on his own, even after all the other stuff we'd eaten yesterday.  But I feel like something was missing.  It wasn't quite hitting the spot.  Maybe it's because I didn't have the sour cream/creme fraiche with it.

To be honest, she was acting like a total drama queen that day. She was acting like she was scared to touch it. Eye roll. Love this girl but she inherits a great trait of being a drama queen!;)

Definitely didn't eat it! But I'm going to add color to it next time like you did, looks so much cooler :)

I've never seen anyone eat it twice, even after adding vanilla flavouring.

Certainly need a recipe for this!  I bet that would go great with some home made corn bread.

I don't know what tonight's dinner will be, but the last two nights, I had chopped salad with diced chicken breast on it.  It was all fresh and homemade and amazing.  I really don't eat enough salads.
