Oscar Mayer Bacon
« on: December 05, 2004, 07:29:08 PM »
I was shocked to see Oscar Mayer Bacon in my local Rugby Sainsbury's today. I did a quick search here but didn't find the right results, has it been mentioned here before? I don't get out to our Sainsbury's very often as it's a few miles out of town and I don't drive yet.

I got two packs, one for the freezer. Can't wait to fry it up tomorrow. :)

I bought Oscar Meyer bacon in Sainsbury's a few weeks ago.  I think it's a regular item for them now.

Had some Oscar Mayer bacon last night - and had an epiphany.

It's just bacon.   :o

Is it just streaky bacon?  I never used it in the States - my dad's a bit of a meat snob, so we always bought from local vendors.  Then, when I lived on my own, I shopped in Wild Oats.

We just like Bacon...period we don't care what it is.

I have found that the butchers bacon is to die for...  um and dan pak lean and low is nice and not too salty.  Oh and the maple cured... and the dry cured back and streaky.  For those in London at Borough Market there are a few butchers that sell dry cure streaky bacon that is to die for.

PS (Amiloo..... have you tried the turkey bacon here?  I have seen it.... thinking where though..... ack.....*knocking head against desk..... ack!)

I've made do with with the regular bacon here for 5 years, I haven't tasted good ole American bacon for probably 3 or 4 years. I haven't been pining for it, it's just nice to have something I really like for a change as opposed to what I've made do with. It's just bacon, yeah, but it's just not as good, IMHO, and it's one of my favourite flavours.

i have seen it once, at the sainsburys out in the inlaw's town-harlow.

we couldn't bring it back though as it wouldn't be refridgrated.  then again, it's only an hour car ride.... hmm.....

Aimiloo, I'm just one  village over from your in-laws and that's the Sainsburys where I shop.  Small world, eh?

I will definately be on the look out for good old Oscar Mayer!

If your local Sainsbury's doesn't happen to sell it then try their dry cured streaky bacon. Its very close  to American bacon!  When I first found it I was so excited. I will say though that on occasion a batch will be a bit too salty. That said, when its not....its great!
