Tex-Mex food
« on: May 31, 2018, 07:55:47 PM »
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get spices and ingredients for Tex-Mex food to make at home?

For example I know Tesco and Asda sell jalapenos in a tin, but where could I find fresh ones? or bell peppers?

I get fresh jalapeños and bell peppers at ASDA.  Any grocery store really.

Interesting. Maybe I’ll need to go to a bigger ASDA.  The one in Scotland doesn’t sell either.

You may have just been there when they were sold out? I find that there are often empty shelves at my Asda. I would be extremely surprised not to be able to get both at any grocery store!  :)

Do you shop online?  Sometimes that’s the easiest!  Then you don’t have to hunt.

I've seen fresh jalapenos at my terrible Tesco, so keep looking.  You'll find some.  For "bell peppers", be aware that they don't call them that here.  They're just peppers, or maybe called by what colour they are, or sweet peppers.  Shop by appearance.

But you don't get to choose either. That's what puts me off grocery shopping online, I don't want someone else selecting my fruit and veg for me!  :)

So pretty much in the middle of nowhere.  Lol

If you are going through Edinburgh,  stop at Lupe Pintos. They have a place in Glasgow too.

There is also an online Mexican grocery store... who has a link to it? I cannae mind it.

That is one of the more frustrating aspects to online grocery shopping, I won't lie.  The person picking your food... they don't care what they send you.  They're just pulling food and shoving it in a bag.  They don't have to eat it.
