Just a heads up to anyone else looking for work, if asked “what salary can we offer you that would make you accept the role?”, don’t start with your lowball answer 🤦🏾♂️ I’m kicking myself. I gave the average of what this position makes in the area, but now that I’m thinking about it, I feel like I should have aimed higher. They’ve accepted what I said and have offered me that salary. I forgot that in some private sector organisations, there’s no standardisation regarding pay. Who knows if someone else doing the exact same job as me will be on significantly more money than me. I was so happy to be offered a role that I forgot to negotiate.
Question: I know it’s too late to ask for more, but say in a year I’m doing really well in the role. Is it then ok to reevaluate salary? Or even ok to ask if the salary I asked for is on par with others doing the same role? I feel in the dark on this.
