So, they are now saying they're going to ask the "over 70s" (which I assume will also have people with "underlying conditions" lumped in?) to shelter in place/self-quarantine for four months. How are older people going to manage for four months without going out at all? They talk about isolation and loneliness killing them in a normal year....   ???   :(  I hope their relatives will at least phone them regularly.

Been watching the US media a lot. It's gone, in two weeks, from a "foreign problem" to them now saying that the hospitals are already rationing supplies and creaking at the seams. So much for doing no testing so no proper planning could be done. And for Trump's dismantling last year of the office that was set up to handle pandemic emergencies.  Up to now they've had no real idea how much was circulating in the wild. Ok, actually they probably still have no idea.  Oops.   ::)

Glad you're getting to see someone, Margo. Hope it all works out.

Yes, over 70s and the vunerable.

Well, I guess that means my new "out of the house" entertainment will no longer involve eating out, but maybe still take-away. Perhaps I can still enjoy a walk in the Botanic Gardens or around the block as long as we avoid people. I guess there are no more trips to city center and not the movies - I was going to try to walk it (it's only a few miles) when the weather got nice, rather than be on the bus. But perhaps that's still too many people in one place.

It's going to be a long Spring.  :(

Daughter was talking to some friends of hers in SoCal today. They seem blissfully unaware - they were shopping in Costco for a party platter to take to a St. Paddy's Day party. Not quite sure how they can be missing all this, but.... yeah.

My husband needs his job, so until/unless he's told he doesn't have to come in, he's going to work.  So now my house is divided by plastic sheeting, and he lives on one side, while I live on the other.  He'll pick up groceries/supplies and spray/wipe everything down with antimicrobial spray/wipes before passing it through to me to put away.  My part of the house contains the utili-kitchen, so I'll be doing the cooking and passing a plate to him through the plastic barrier.  He'll pass it back when he's done, and I'll immediately wash it and my hands after handling it.  This may be overkill, but we won't regret doing too much.  We'd only regret not doing enough.

We'll live this way until he has been able to stay home for at least ten days so we can be reasonably sure he's "clean".  Then we can go back to co-existing like 'normal' people.  He'll still wipe down or spray everything that comes into the house after that.  It's going to be a long and tedious wait for a vaccine.

Thanks, PB.  It's stressful (and tedious), but at least we have the option to take these steps.

Holy Cow!  I totally understand why you are doing all that but it sounds really difficult.  Good Luck.

I'm not sure if it's worse, or about the same, as when he was commuting to Salisbury.  It doesn't seem quite as arduous for him, but the stress of knowing what could happen if we mess up is insane.

On the bright side, I have an oven, now.  So roast dinners are a possibility.  That's something.  ;)

Maybe you can cook CoronaNation Chicken  :D

PS
Just realized that is very much a bad pun on a British recipe - sorry.

If we can't groan at a bad pun in times like these, what's the point?  :)

Maybe you could pull the van around and he could sleep in that.

I bet he'd love that.  ;)

So, Coronation Chicken. I've heard about it for years and know it was a QE2 thing.  What exactly is it? Is it like chicken salad?

Aside - trials of a Covid-19 vaccine are starting in the USA either today or next Monday (they said Monday but didn't identify which one). Apparently it'll still take over a year to get it through the development process. Let's hope it works so that anyone who doesn't catch this first round can be inoculated against it in case it's going to pop up more often.

Coronation chicken is delicious.  I'm surprised you haven't had it!

I do wonder what the Anti-vaxers take on all this is....  like I really wonder.

Coronation chicken is quite nice, especially on a sandwich or jacket potato.  It's like pieces of chicken breast in a mayonnaise sauce with tumeric or something similar to make it mustard / orange coloured.
