We've book an all inclusive to Taba, Egypt for next week. We'll make day trip to Cairo as well. I have a friend who went a few years ago, and she keeps telling me stories about men coming up to her boyfriend and trying to trade camels for her in Cairo!

do they still do that? funny i lived there for three years and only heard stories of that! lol, its like urban legend.again it depends on where u are at and what u are wearing! i suggest not wearing shorts and tanks there.. one cause of the sun, and two cause of the men. they are like dogs in heat sometimes..

Yes, she was wearing shorts and a tank top, and as you say, she deeply regretted it the next day! It's a very good tip for both reasons, and one I might not have thought of before going.

? So we shouldn't tip? Everything I've read says it's important to tip, as their livelihood depends on it. Is this not true?

hi, oh yeah tip, but just becareful, espically in the taxis, most trips shouldnt be more then 10 LE ... if u are in traffic, then that is fine, maybe alil more, but lets say, 5 miles and normal traffic it will take u atleast thirty mintues, if it is busy, which is a lot. LOL. also if u dont speak arabic, they will immediately target u. one tip about the taxis, there is a number on the side of the taxi in english, its ususally on the back by the door. remember this number in case u have any problems with the drivers, if u happen to take the taxis, also most of them dont have ac :) like the restaurants, the ususal tip.. my dh just got back and they charged him 10LE for shy that is tea. and the waitress gave him 3 LE back she kept the rest for a tip..... he didnt say anything, because in the sterling its less then 2£ and he was tired, but this is kinda of example, also in the street if u see someone asking for money take care, cause many will come near u.. and ask too... basically its the normal tip scale. just dont let them tell u differ! have a great time!

Ah I see. Yes, my friend keeps telling me to be careful with money as well. She said she bought two little miniature models of the sphinx from a lady walking around, and while she was putting her change back in her purse, the lady just grabbed the models back and "legged it"! Well, I'm sure it will be an adventure at any rate! But I can't wait.
I really appreciate the advice, mspotts. :)

Nope, we haven't planned or booked anything yet.  There are hopes and dreams...and then there is cost.  Reading everyone's plans is making me  :\\\'(.

That sounds like us as well cause we normally go back to the States in November for Thanksgiving & our Wedding Anniversary. with the cost of alot of flights through the roof & some airlines are charging for each suitcase you have  :o  we arent used to doing that at all. :(  but this year I don't think we are going home cause my 17 old niece graduates high school in May 09 yeah  ;D  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]  so I would rather go an see that than go home in November. also it will be a new season for Dh to see he has never been in Indiana during the summer months only winter months not to mention I can get Dh & I some summer clothes as well.  ;D  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]
