Thanks! I've felt so helpless watching them go.  If they won't eat or drink or take the antibiotics, there is little I can do.  I can encourage and try, but it's not like a chicken is able to listen to reasoning.
I had to buy eggs for the first time in years. Definitely not as tasty as home eggs!!

So sorry to hear of your feather'd friend's demise.  That's just so sad. 

Yes, she's the only one left! Chickens like being in flocks, so I hope to get her some pals soon (as long as she's healthy -I don't want to bring new ones home into the plague!)

I did get her some new pals. Except they're very wee.  I think she's either terrified or is a grumpy old lady .She's crowing, pecking, and fluffing her feathers.  I'm a bit afraid for them ,so all separated at the moment.  Once they're bigger, I hope all can be together.

Ohhhh, they are gorgeous little things!    I'm so happy your original bird is still well, hope they all make friends eventually. 

She’s establishing her pecking order and is ensuring she will be TOP.  Looks like a beautiful variety of friends.  Will they lay different colour eggs?

Yes, she's absolutely wanting to be queen bee (she was 3rd in the pecking order in my flock before)

I can't quite tell what colour their ears are yet, but that will determine if they lay brown or white eggs. (Not sure how you tell if they lay coloured eggs)  - time will tell I guess.

Someone told me that a chicken can change sex if the flock requires it.

Could number one chicken be thinking about going macho?

Interestingly, I've never heard this, but googling seems to think it does happen, but not spontaneously nor to suit the needs of the flock, but some weird genetic thing!

A chap I know told me that he had three chickens, the male died and one of the remaining females changed over.
