My poor chook
« on: April 25, 2019, 12:10:24 PM »
Aww, my poor chook hasn't gotten better - She was looking better, but she's gone downhill.
She's been lethargic, and puffed up and basically can tell she's sore.  She's got such a dookie butt and smells horrid (not that chickens smell great, but this is nasty)

I have self diagnosed her with vent gleet, which is a yeast infection! I really hope it's that and not something else. She's still eating and drinking, so I don't think it's parasitic. She doesn't feel 'eggbound'

I've given her the recommended bath. (She enjoyed her tubby!) and have made her a hospital coop out of an old guinea pig hutch (just for healing, she's not staying in for long).  And more apple cider vinegar and poultry spice. She got a helping of yoghurt this morning for some probiotics.  I need to pick up some Canesten cream to put on her vent.

All this for a chicken. When I normally eat them. LOL  ;D
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

Don't tell the pharmacy the canasten is for your chicken  or they won't sell it to you!!

Hope she gets better soon.

Aww, poor thing!  She does look like she's enjoying her bath though.

I hope she gets better!

Thanks everyone!
Well I am not sure. I've put her pack in with her friends this morning. She was looking a bit better, but I don't know for sure. I think I need to call a vet.

Well I was expecting that my husband was going to call the chicken friendly vet  surgery, since he's doing architectual work for him and his boss's partner also works there as a vet, but he got busy and forgot.

Nonetheless, Mrs Chicken is looking a bit better today. Her feathers are shiny again, her eyes look brighter and she's come up excitedly for treats.  So, I hope she's on the mend!  I am such a worried Chicken-Mum!
