local dairy which produced fresh egg nog.

You are a freaking genius! Time to start hitting the farmer's markets for freshly made egg nog. Or getting off my ars* to make it myself. Though I don't like to think about that much egg in my drink. If I can't see it, it isn't there... Might have to try the no egg egg nog. But how will it taste sans rum?

Err, I'd be quite surprised to see egg nog at farmers' markets here, but I suppose it wouldn't be out of the question -- particularly in more rural areas.

When I referred to a local dairy, I meant one back home in the US.  We used home delivery service from a dairy here in Hertfordshire and they never offered egg nog at the holidays.

I miss good old egg nog. I honestly thought before I moved over that I'd easily find it here, since it seemed like a traditional British drink. They do like mince pies here though, and Christmas pud.

Ah, Cait, I thought you were talking about here, clearly.

I still believe that a wonderful organic farm that has a stand at Borough Market or elsewhere will provide the public with wonderfully fresh egg nog for a premium price. And I'll pay it. It's a traditional holiday drink for me and my family that I would like to introduce to my new family (not small ones, but husband and his fam) this Christmas.

I wish there was one here!  I'm not looking forward to making another batch this year.  Last year's turn into a bit of scrambled egg.  :o

I was seriously thinking about making it for his family myself. At least if it turns out bad I can cover it up with the rum and just get 'em all drunk. :)

Easiest eggnog recipe you'll ever find!

Ingred: 1 doz eggs
             1 qt cream
             1 1/2 cups sugar
             1 pint whiskey

Seperate eggs. Beat yolks and add sugar until creamy. Add whiskey slowly (the whisky cooks the eggs). Add whipped cream and stir well. Whip half of the egg whites and add to the mixture by folding them. Chill well. Serves 12-14.

My mother in law and I open the Advocaat early afternoon on Boxing Day and by dinner time neither of us is fit to cook which gives us both a break after making that huge Christmas dinner the day before.  ;D

I found some canned eggnog in Selfridges in London, if that helps anyone. I can't remember what brand it was.

*shudders* Did you like it?

I bought some back in the US while my husband was there just because it was out of season and he'd never tried it so I wanted him to. The first swallow was okay but then the more you had the nastier it tasted. Never again. lol

I don't really like eggnog anyway. My wife seemed to think it was ok since she couldn't get anything else, but not great.
