Speaking of Virgin Atlantic, I'm working at there offices lately and boy do they get good deals and freebies on flights.  Working for them (or most any other airline, I imagine) has its perks!
This woman I'm working with has been here several years and she gets something like 7 free flights anywhere,
so many upgrades to business and even first class free, special Mates fares that are sometimes deeply discounted.
It's unfortunate I can't take advantage of it!

we have flown upper class with an 18 month old and a 3 yr old. (employer paid !!) not all planes have the suite beds, but i wouldn't want my toddler across the aisle if they did..... if you aren't buying the baby a seat, i imagine it would be lots more space for the 2 of you....... our flights have been  fantastic in every way, except that you are still travelling with 2 kids on a loooooooooong flight ;).  better than business class in american, ba or delta.  we regularly fly virgin PE with the kids on our own dime; often with me travelling alone with 2 kids. no fancy food, but everything else makes the added cost worth it!!

I'm not sure where you're flying from/to, or if this would be a possible option. But, if you can fly Continental instead of Virgin and if you have OnePass miles (or KLM Flying Dutchman Miles), it is possible to upgrade to First Class for 10,000 miles and a $300 (£150ish) change fee, which, if I'm reading the other posts correctly sounds a lot more economical in terms of both cash and miles. (Plus its actual first class, complete with table cloths and snooty flight attendants. ;D) I'm from Houston, which is Contintental's biggest hub or something, so this is the only airline I fly back to the States. I'm not sure what the others have to offer. I'm also not sure how much it costs if you have to pay. . .Just a thought. Either way, good luck!

I was going to be really mad about this as I got our tickets on the 14th but thankfully the slashed prices weren't slashed to less than what we paid. But how I would love more space!!

BusinessFirst on Continental is not a first class product, but a business class product.  Continental does not have a first class cabin.

I flew Virgin to and from Vegas for Christmas and I *loved* it! Nicest airline by far I have ever been on. Little Britain, free Baileys and laying down while watching Pride & Prejudice...mmm, heaven. I don't even bother with my laptop for movies. And the bangers and mash is honestly the best I've ever had.

Highly recommended. However, I would stay in plain economy because often you can lift the armrests and lay down. But I am not with child and a wee 5'8''  ;)

Let's take our wigs off in the shopi aisle and fight it out.

Virgin UpperClass is Amazing!!!  Thanks for asking and the advice.  You were so right to give such a high recommendation of UpperClass.  The length of the bed, the comfortable seats, excellent entertainment system, the departure lounge and just everything Virgin offered made for a wonderful flight.

Thanks again Elizabeth for you help :D
