Bottled Water
« on: April 13, 2006, 11:59:53 AM »
Im putting this under Food Talk, could be chit chat...?

For those of us living in the UK, what do you do about drinking water?  Do you use a Brita, buy bottled water or have it delivered?  Maybe even nothing since your water straight from the tap taste's great?!  Our water here in Bristol is....well, its yucky!  So we started with a Brita, but that didnt seem to make us happy.  Now we have been buying 5ltr bottles from Sainsbury's and having it delivered.  We are not sure if its cost effective, so we are trying to decide on having it delivered directly from a water company.

Thoughts?  Suggestions??

Thank you!!! ;D

I use a Brita.  Thing is when I first got here I used the Brita and it still tasted gross, now almost three years later I am used to the taste (I drink about 4 liters a day now) Even tap water at restaurants I can deal with, as long as it's really cold.

Do they do water bubblers/coolers here?  My parents have had theres for years and years and it's very cost effective for them. (Except when I visit and they go through a 5 gallon bottle in 2 days)  I would do it here if I had more space.

We have a Brita because our tap water tastes pretty gross, but the Brita does wonders!

I have toyed with the idea of a Brita, but still have not bought one.

So, I either drink water out of the tap super cold (which makes a huge difference) or buy those huge things of ICE brand water for 99p. I hate dragging those huge things though. When I (hopefully soon) move, I probably will go ahead and get a Brita.

It would be nice if they had those PUR things for taps here.

Let's take our wigs off in the shopi aisle and fight it out.

I used a Brita tank thing in the fridge in the US because our water wasn't so nice. I brought it with me, but haven't needed it here as we have lovely water! I'm keeping it, though, just in case I move somewhere else in the UK where the water isn't as good.

Here's another question, is there fluoride in the water here?

I'm pretty sure that in some places there is, and in others there isn't.

Our water tastes gross.  It's not even clear.  We buy bottled water.

we use a Brita as well.   The tap water taste fine but coming out of the brita it tastes better. maybe it's just psychological, i don't know. But what I can not stand is the fact that i see little floaty bits of limescale in my tap water. That just does it for me, I can't drink it. my husband says he wants to posts a thread something like "the things you never thought you would do until you married an american"!  He says he never thought he would be fussy about drinking water and now he prefers it out of Brita as well!

I second the Bristol water being yucky! I dont like tap water to begin with though :( We get 2 liter 4 packs from Sainsburys, that caldonian still or whatever it is ;) I found I prefer that over, well, pretty much most of the other waters. I am esp picky now, I cant drink it if it doesnt have the minerals in it, otherwise it tastes like dirt :( I dont think my fiance has any plans of getting drinking water delivered though...he just either picks it up when we go shopping or his dad gets it (they only shop at sainsburys and now and then M&S for special occaisions). Would likely be more cost-effective and convenient to get it delivered, but oh well ;)

We just drink good old tap water. It's always ice cold, clear and tastes like, well, water.

But at work I don't drink the tap water, but they have water coolers all over our offices.

But I can't think who the supplier is.
Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

We have a filter for our tap water and I never used to mind drinking it (I used to drink about 2-3 liters of water/day) until I got a parasite and it was discovered in the water system (about 100 other people in the area had it too).   Now I've kind of gone off water all together (I have to get past that fear) but when I do drink water I drink bottled..

PS: I hope I didn't gross anyone out..

I buy cheap spring water. I'm not concerned with buying the most expensive or anything. I just hate the taste of the tap water here. But, for the times that I am running low on water and know I won't be going to the store for a couple of days, I fill a couple bottles with tap water and let them sit opened for 24 hours. It lets the chlorine evaporate and magically tastes much better. It doesn't have that smell or anything to it anymore after letting it sit out.
