What is the facebook username?  I've been on facebook since October of this year and just use my real name.  Is the username something new?

I am on as Andee Maiden-name Married-name.  There are loads of people who knew me only as Andee Maiden-name and have found me on facebook who wouldn't have found me if I had been just Andee Married-name.

Yep, it's a new thing they brought in last week.  It's just a shortened URL to your profile page- I set one up, but I'm probably not going to use it all that much since my profile is private anyway. You can get one at http://www.facebook.com/username.

I'm on with just my married last name- but that's because pretty much everyone I know from my past that I care to reconnect with were already Facebook friends with me before I got married so they all know I changed my name.  And anyone new that wants to find me can search for my maiden name and I'll still pop up. :)

I had a friend request the other day from someone I was friends with in 7th grade. She stopped speaking to me in 9th grade (never did find out why), never uttered a word to me thru school despite my numerous attempts and even one last effort at university!
Now she wants to be friends on facebook? How weird is that?!!?? :-X

I've always used a username on FB, I would never use my real name & surname on any social networking site.

I'm finding it really hard to keep up with all the friends I have on FB now, I have about 70 I think. I know some people have hundreds but that just seems mad to me.

I've got about 70 friends, too.  Some of them are old classmates that got excited about re-connecting at first, but now we never really communicate.  I don't want to delete them because that seems too aggressive since they are all nice people.

I think all my friends are on facebook with their real names.  I guess keeping the privacy stuff on and being a bit careful with what I say is good enough privacy for me.

I just use first name and married last name. I'm not ashamed of my maiden name or anything, but there are a few people I didn't mind losing touch with over the years!  ;) Too many ex-boyfriends on the friends list as it is... lol.

Interesting, I never thought of having a username on fb.  I use my first and married last name.  I haven't gone by my maiden name for a long time, so why use it?  Besides, if someone for the past wants to get a hold of me I have the high school that I graduated from in my profile, along with a picture of myself. I'm  heavier, saggier, and grayer than I was way back when, but it sill looks like me.   :)
I have about 65 friends, and that is a good number for me.
But I think it needs to be said again...be careful about what you put on fb or any site.  I don't list where exactly I live...just the general area.  I have some friends that have their home addresses and phone numbers in their profiles!  :o  I never state that we are going away until we have come back home, and I'm very careful about what I post concerning my children.
Besides, there are always emails and PM's if you want to share additional information.

Is there a way to block people on your friends listing from seeing certain things?  Like your status or photos?

Yes.

You have to set up "groups" within your friends and then you control which groups have access to what.

*edit* sorry, they're called lists.

Then, go to settings -> privacy -> profile and on each there is a drop down menu. If you select "customize" at the bottom there is a "block these people or groups" and you type in what you called the list of people you don't want having access to each section.

hope I explained it....
