Anyone seen vegetarian chorizo in the UK?
« on: January 06, 2007, 06:59:07 AM »
I used to use "Soyrizo" in the US, but doubt it will be carried here. I'm being lazy and asking if anyone has seen anything similar before I go hunting for it. Forgive me.  ;D

I've never seen anything like that here. Holland & Barratt has a vege garlic sausage in their freezer section and there are various 'slices' available but I haven't seen anything claiming to be chorizo.

Thanks, Liz.

Not the answer I wanted but sort of expected. Ah well.

Never heard of it, but i've never looked, either.

Are you a veggie, Courtney?

Technically pescatarian.

Have some black beans I thawed out and some sweet potatoes. Used the ingredient search on allrecipes and it came up with this awesome sounding Brazilian black bean stew that calls for chorizo. Was hoping that I could find the veg version of it but can do without. I did find an recipe to make veg chorizo, but am not that inspired.  ;D

if you ever *do* feel that inspired, just make a BIG batch and freeze it.

i made chorizo once (carnivore)... i wanted the loose, raw stuff that we used to get in California, rather than the hard, dried sausage style that we get here.  After searching endlessly for it, i just decided to make it myself.  It turned out great, and i had loads in the freezer for future recipes.

me too. It was a yummy substitute.

I agree, try making it yourself. I made meat chorizo here and I imagine its shouldn't be much more difficult with the veg stuff... that way you can even choose which spices and how much you like!! Ooh, good idea to use up some dried mince I have in my house... yum chorizo and eggs tomorrow!!  ;D

Looking at that recipe, I don't know where you'd find hamburger crumbles here either ...

Oh dude that's easy!  We can totally try it - heck I can even try it for lunch!  I think our Waitrose has soy crumbles - if i can't find them there, there is a little health food store near Russell Square that DH loves, I'm sure they'll have them there.  I think it's called Alana.

Quorn mince is the same as the Morningstar Farms hamburger crumbles.

Asda sells the mince, but I just came from Tesco and no cornmeal or tofu to be had. I know I can find them both here somewhere, just a question of where.
