Friday Five:

1) It is pouring outside. It started while I was about two miles down the road. Took the bus home! Had been out at various shops, finally tried the butcher on Byres Road. Got a good deal on mince, will see how it is. If good, they have a "lean meat" box that seems a reasonable price and doesn't have any pork in it. (As much as I love bacon, I can't really eat pork.) We have been "eating down" the freezer, and it is now time to restock it for winter.

2) The local library had a copy of the driver's ed handbook. Thank goodness, because trying to do that much reading on the computer was making my eyes cross. So I shall be curled up for the afternoon with the book and a mug of coffe. Vanilla cinnamon coffee, ground from beans brought back from Seattle by one of the Daughter's friends. Bless them.  The flavor syrups just don't make the same final product as actual flavored coffee. ;D

3) Amazon left a bag (like at least 50 pounds weight - it's freaking huge) of bird seed with us for a neighbor who was out last week. They said it was for Apt 6 and that they would notify them where it was. I finally shoved a note through their door yesterday to let them know it was in my front hall. Today I got a note back from the builders who are working in the flat - it is empty. Oops. So I muscled the bag around and looked at the address on the very bottom - it's for another flat. Just went and stuck the note in their door, as they weren't home and I actually can't lift the bag. Hopefully the guy will come and get it soon.

4) The Daughter has been busy at the Uni this week, helping with returning students. Which is good, as it gets her out of the house and gives her purpose. She has to apply for funding for the PhD program next month, and seems hopeful that she might get it. If so, she'd start that program next fall. If no funding, she'll work until there's funding. But only part-time, so she remains a dependent until five years are up. Unless her Irish citizenship comes through, in which case she's got her get-outa-jail-free card there. Or unless I find substantial work that lasts a year (which isn't looking good.)

5) The diet. It's been basically a 900 calorie a day diet, with week seven ending tomorrow. The Daughter weighed herself last night and was upset that she's only lost five kilos. (11 pounds.) She thought she'd have lost a lot more. I think 11 pounds in 7 weeks is a sensible weight loss. BUT, apparently that's not what should have happened. So she walked like crazy on the treadmill at the gym before coming home and managed to get blisters on the soles of her feet. (Never had ~that~ happen before, not sure what's up with it.) So, more weeks of the diet. And I forgot to pick up salad greens at Waitrose while I was out. (Sigh)

Inches are sometimes a better way to measure when dieting, as sometimes weight ends up redistributed to better areas (like muscle).  I've given myself blisters many times, it stinks. She might need better socks if planning to do that much walking again!

Yeah, I think she just freaked out when she saw the weight wasn't coming off as quickly as she expected, and so she just sort of tried to walk it all off at once. Usually she bikes on the stationary bikes, but has to be careful to not overdo it because it'll inflame her knees. I don't know how much she walked, but it must have been a lot. We often walk three or four miles when we go out, with no trouble. Perhaps it's her shoes... she was wearing an old pair of high-tops. Maybe some jell inserts would help. Right on the sole of her feet, where all the pressure goes when you walk. ouchies!

Yeah, she's gone down some inches, and she was losing quickly at first. But I suspect she got into the peanuts too often. We keep peanuts in the house and a very small amount of them when one is really hungry will keep the wolf at bay, as it were. I think that perhaps she ate too many peanuts, and they are not low calorie. Healthy enough, but not low calorie. So instead of doing 800-900 it was probably closer to 1400 to 1500. Hmmm. Will put the peanuts out of sight somewhere.

Still, I think losing over a pound and a half a week is something to cheer, not be depressed about. But I'm not her. :-\\\\

I agree with you, but it is hard when you were hoping for more! And yeah, bad shoes are another cause of blisters. Even biking in old shoes might not be the best. Does she do any aerobic exercise? Sometimes aqua aerobics/running in water is better than on land if you have arthritis. I know it can seem like an old lady thing, but it's better to get safe exercise!

3 and a bit. But she is just so head strong she won't train. She tells me when she is going or just after. She so advanced with everything else, but refuses to use the potty.

I was right, something else interesting did happen.

Trying to prepare dinner tonight via crockpot, and CANT MEASURE.

I had to bother my husband at work.

GEEZ. The recipe book has cups/oz/ml but his measuring cup (which he called a jug) is only in ml. Had no idea how to work a "kettle" lol

lord, this is gonna be fun.

I always just google it. Google is my best friend haha I also brought US measuring cups here but you should be able to get some here easy enough on Amazon.

US measures are different than UK, if you're using a US cookbook look up the conversion. I brought US measuring cups,, but going by weight is safer! My husband bought a lil digital scale just after I moved and we use it almost daily. :)

We've got a digital scale for cheap from lidl and I LOVE it! Makes some recipes sooo much easier!

Albatross - are they THE corn dogs?! Also, you gotta give credit to that band's name hahah. Very sad about the puppies :(

MrsMagpie - don't take it personally as it's the dementia talking :(

Nan - just remind her that everybody's body is different with weight loss...if she's working out as well, she might very well be putting on muscle which is making the weight loss less drastic in terms of numbers even though it's happening.
My, how time flies....

What can I say... TGIF.

1. Well, work went from 0 to 60 in no time flat.  I have literally been treading water this whole week.  We are down in numbers, I have been playing catch-up ever since returning from holiday, and I have had to pretty much drop my usual workload to train the newest member of our team who started on Monday.  Luckily, I feel like she's going to be a great fit.

2. Better get used to the increased workload because I'll be pushing for a promotion here in the next few weeks.  Time to dust off and polish my CV!

3. Oooooohhhhhhhh the DRAMA on this season of 90 Day Fiancé!

4. The neighbors put their house up for sale yesterday - cannot believe what they are asking for it.  Dave and I did some spontaneous yard work this evening, with some more planned for tomorrow.  Gotta make sure everything is tidy on the outside so the neighbors get as much as they can on the sale, thank you very much.

5. Gonna see Europe tomorrow!  It's the final countdooooowwwwwwn!

*raises hand* Guilty as charged!  Absolutely love that show!  Dave and I have been so addicted to the latest season on Prime.  Can't wait to see the "tell all" episode because that's when the real drama goes down.

1.  My sponsor dog, Brandy, gave birth to 12 pups, but unfortunately they all fell ill with parvo, and all have now died, apart from 3.  Very sad.
2.  However, the good news is that the 3 remaining pups are all now well enough to leave hospital, and they are now home with their mum... I'm sure she is a very happy and relieved galga!
3.  Made a new friend this week... a girl in my office, who I initially kept my distance from because she has a really grumpy face (resting btch face), has turned out to be really lovely and a good laugh.
4.  My OH is going out tonight to see some band called Psychedelic Porn Crumpets (!!!) - he's been out every night this week, and I'm getting a bit tired of it.
5.  CORN DOGS TONIGHT!!!  ;D

So sorry to hear about Brandy and the pups. Parvovirus is rough, and there isn't anything they can do really. Would love to see some pictures of the puppies I'd you get any! I should post some of Mylo and Lily. I've got some good ones of them being silly.

Wunderbar about the new friends.

And yay for corndogs dogs!!! What do you put on yours? I'm a French's mustard person.😊
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Ah, problem solved (sorta). The scale was off. We have a Wii console in the house that we haven't used since we got here, but it has our historic weights stored on it. We brushed it off and played with it last evening (and are both reaching for the Naproxen today!). Turns out she lost close to 20 pounds, and I am at exactly the weight I was when I got to the UK.

Aaaannnnddd we found a liquid meal replacement with no aspartame or sucralose in it - sold by Tesco, at 10 packets per pack, three packs for 10 pounds. THAT is doable.  So we're going to go until Thanksgiving, and then give it a rest until the New Year if we haven't gotten to the weight we both want.

Oh phew! I'm glad it wasn't as disappointing as she felt yesterday. Wii can be great fun for exercise :) I hope the meal replacements help too!
