do the British make rice krispy treats?
« on: January 11, 2008, 08:46:05 PM »
My dh goes over every 3 weeks or so and takes cookies into the office when he goes.  He leaves tomorrow and I'm planning on making the choc no bakes that they liked before but am wondering if they have Rice Krispy treats over there?  So far have made choc chip, oatmeal raisin, no bakes, and of course he's taken some store cookies over.  any suggestions of something different is welcomed!!

Thanks!!

Carol

Dont make anything with peanut butter... or if you do, dont tell them it's got peanut butter in it!

My dh took a jar of peanut butter in last time and they turned their noses up at it :( then he took Claxton fruit cake and they loved the difference.  So we're trying to figure out what next.

That's funny because my British office mates were just complaining that there aren't enough peanut butter treats in England. One guy had a bag of Peanut Butter M&M's and we all devoured them! My housemate turned her nose up at my Skippy....until she tried it.  :P

I made some pb cookies a few weeks back. I gave them to Adam's parents, not telling them what they were (they guessed it before they'd even had a bite, though). They loved them, and his mom took some to her mom. Adam wasn't a fan, though.
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.

I was thinking the same, my husband and his friends love my PB cookies.  They also went nuts over the PB M&M's I brought back for them!

I think a lot of it is a pre-conceived notion most people over here have about peanut butter mostly because they just don't know all the different ways and things you can make with it!  Most of the girls I work with kind of gave me this sideways glance when I first made peanut butter cookies but their eyes all lit up when they tasted them.  They all love my peanut butter fudge and adore reese's peanut butter cups and pb m&m's.  They actually beg me to make stuff to bring in!  I don't usually tell people what's in it and most love it!  I say go ahead and try loads of different things with peanut buttter in it!  There are so many different foods it would be fantastic!

On the topic of peanut butter, dont mention it in a sandwich with jam over here, for Petes sake.
Can you get marshmallow Fluff here to make the Rice Krispie Treats?
Good things come to those who wait...a really long time.

That's right... they THINK they dont like it, even before they've tasted it!
If you dont tell your colleagues it's got peanut butter in it, they are usually pleasantly surprised.

Your mileage may vary.

Don't need no fluff, woman! Haribo marshmallows work nicely.  :D

Right! I've never used Fluff to make them in the US. I always just used marshamallows.

I never even thought of using Fluff to make rice krispy treats. Fluff isn't even available in all of the US we never saw it in TN when we lived there in the 90s. I've always just used marshmallows and melted them down.

I think I might make rice krispy treats soon!
