Cool, I haven't tried Tex-Mex in the UK yet.

Ok, I will give you the info on the place.  It's called "Loco Mexicano."  It's located on Wilton Road about 2 blocks from Victoria Tube station.  Apparently, another UK-Yank has found it too. ;)

I can call them and ask about reservations down stairs.  Upstairs has more atmosphere (definitely), but it is pretty loud.  We can just do straight reservations if you guys want to go to some place first to do the book discussion..  There's a Starbucks right across the street.  It is served by bus 24 which runs right in front of it.

The other option I thought of today was to meet at the Tate Britain on Millbank.  They have a cafe downstairs, but it might be a bit noisy.  Admission to the Tate is by voluntary donation (£3).  There are a few pubs nearby we could go to after if anyone wants.  It is near to the Victoria line and is nearest to Pimlico station.  It can also be reached by ferry from Central London (Tate Modern) and a few buses (not sure the numbers).

I could also contact the pub on Cambridge Street about reserving that back room for a few hours that afternoon.

Anyway, those are my Pimlico/Victoria recommendations.  I am open to suggestions elsewhere if people have any.

Let me know. :)

I vote for meeting in a pub/cafe first (casually) so we can have snacks and cookies and the like and then maybe moving to have dinner after?  I just think that a full meal won't be condusive to a good book discussion...seem like a thing best done over coffee/drinks and cookies to me.

Then again, I've never done this before, so I'm probably going off too many movies :).

Need to get a move on & order the book!!

For those who haven't looked into the Afternoon Tea thread, I was wondering what you'd think about somewhere that serves afternoon tea as a setting for the bookclub?
And if you threw a party

I'd be up for it.  I will leave it up to someone else to offer suggestions for where though.

No one has any suggestions for a tea house setting for the book club meeting?

I am sorry, but I don't have any at all.   Are we back at the Pub or TexMex place for options?

If no one has any suggestions for the tea place.  I wanted to give it a chance because it was a nice idea.

You like the Tex-Mex place, Karrit?  I can call about reservations this week if no one else has any.

Did you guys want the pub (I can find a map of it if I get the address, but it's only a few blocks from the Tex-Mex place) or the Starbucks for the discussion?  Or should we do just one place?

Moggs, I like TexMex, but I think the suggestion that we meet in the Pub really makes the most sense for our purpose.  That is if your pub is amenable to a bunch of Yanks taking over for the afternoon! ;D

Hey just wanted to say, that I am still interested in the book club, but I'm in the middle of a move right now.  Its taking up all my spare time/money, so I may have to duck out of the first one.  But I'm still following the thread!

Hope to see you at the next one, Marlene.

I spoke to the publican at the Clarendon.  He's willing to let us use the function room as the meeting spot.  He thinks the fireplace room might be a bit noisy.  He told me to call him about it so I can see it when he's not busy.

If no one has a problem with that, we can meet in the pub, go to the meeting room for the discussion, then whoever wants can head a short distance to Loco Mexicano for dinner.  I'd like to make reservations if this is our plan, so if people can let me know objections and confirm whether you're coming or not and if you're staying on for dinner.

The Clarendon serves snackies as well.

Let me know. :)

Moggs, that sounds like a great plan.  What time should we meet?  3pm?  4?  If we meet at 4 that would give us a couple of hours for introductions and book discussion and then dinner at 6:30ish.

Would like to know what everyone else thinks!

I'd be interested in attending as I tend to read a lot and have no one to discuss my books with.  March 1 doesn't work for me (DH's b-day) but after that I could plan to attend.  Would you ever consider doing it on a week night?  I work in the Victoria area but live in the Essex area.  Since I travel 3 hours everyday for work I try not to do it on the weekends.
