I agree, my DH swore he paid with a 20 because that was all he had on him. The cashier swore it was a 10. He had no way to prove, nor did they. He walked away angry and then later embarrassed when he remembered he had made a purchase before that one, and it was indeed a 10 he had paid with.

It can happen to anyone--- I would continue to leave it on top :).

It happens all the time where I work.  Sometimes it the cashier's fault, but a lot of times it's the customer just not paying attention.

They're lying though if they tell you that there is no way to tell.  Ask to see a supervisor and insist that they cash up the till - or at the very least take down your name and number so they can call you when they cash up the till at night. Then go back and check.

Thanks guys!  I will continue to put the note on top then.  I just sort of noticed that none of the other cashiers did it so I wondered why.  I also noticed that people never seemed to check what they had given me.  They also never seem to count their change.  I was taught to count backwards and I always do so for my benefit as well as the customers - I have caught a few mistakes that way!  I give them the silver and copper first though and then count the pound coins as if I was counting ones because I can't see handing someone a handful of change and just expecting them to trust it is right, though most people do I guess.

all the notes are different colors and sizes here.  Why can't we do that with our money?
Good question. How do blind people cope with currency in the US? It would have to based on trust?

And Hawaii doesn't use DST either.

I've heard that the Blind Society (not sure what it's called) have been campaigning for years to get the US to change the currency for that very reason.

I found the coffee in little bags.  I went in the store the first time and just grabbed a big aluminum coffee can because it looked like one from home.  At home I discovered it was instant!  So now we have a massive can of cheap instant coffee - bleggh.  When I went back it took me fifteen minutes to find ground coffee in a little bag.  But it was Asda - they seem not to have very much of anything in that store. (I miss Wal-Mart every time i go to Asda!)

(eek! sorry for the hijack!)

..that one can use an old credit card for scrapping ice.

Perhaps a quick and easy solution would be to print braille denominations on the notes when they are printed?

I don't think that would work.  Think of the state of an old dollar bill that's been passed around a few wallets and pockets.

.... I learned from Tin, that printing braille denominations on $1 notes might not be such a good idea.   ;D

My grandmother had people fold her money for her in certain ways for each type of bill so she could feel. But being blind and living in an area where you needed to drive to go places, she was rarely out in a place by herself when she wouldn't have someone to help her pay.

Thanks for the insight. I can see that would make sense, the folding the bills in certain ways and then just keeping track. Not ideal considering the millions that are affected by this issue.

Wow! 2 years. That is really cool. Next word might be worm?  ;)

Today I learned or maybe it was confirmed!

Prices are climbing fast in the US. Example food, canned goods have gone up 30%.

I wanted an electric bike. They had them at Walmart for $299 the other day. Today I checked and they want $499.........Way to go.

Maybe it's to do with the Christmas shopping season. The bike not the food. If it's a must have gift anyway!
