It's like when I asked my husband's family about the tradition here of eating brussel sprouts at Christmas dinner, their reply was, "well, if we didn't have the tradition, when would anyone eat them?"  :)  BIL actually likes them, but I thought it was funny that they still eat them even though most of the family finds them revolting.  It reminded me of all the times I forced down sweet potatoes.  I like them now, but were it not for the marshmallows, I don't think I'd have ever been able to get them down as a kid.

Oh see I never liked brussel sprouts before I moved here, but now I love them!  But there's good brussel sprouts and then there's baaaad brussel sprouts.  The secret is to buy them as fresh as possible still attached to that huge club of a stalk that they grow on!  (double-purpose - it could be used as a weapon as well!)  The frozen or tinned or not-so-fresh supermarket ones are bad, bad, bad - tasting like cardboard, or worse if they're overcooked.  But the freshest brussel sprouts - sauteed up with a little bacon - and sort of al dente (not overcooked) - mmmmmmm!  :)

It's on Sunday evenings - at either 8 or 9 pm.  You can still catch up on it using BBC I-Player though!  :)

Hee - my hubby was (and is) thoroughly disgusted by sweet potatoes with marshmallows & brown sugar etc on them...  [smiley=laugh4.gif]

It's one of my husbands FAVORITES!!! He loves the way I make them with the marshmallows..but I add pecans too..Mmm

A friend makes them with all the above, plus... chopped salami.  Yes, it sounds awful, but adds a really nice saltiness that is surprisingly tasty.

Picky time... it's Brussels (as in the capital of Belgium) sprouts... (In France they are choux de Bruxelles - Brussels cabbages) and I love 'em, except they give me terrible wind.

On last Sunday's episode I could have sworn I heard Stephen Fry make that clicking noise with his tongue that means "let's go" or "speed up" to horses, just before the horse started to trot.  Then he complained that horses always do that when he rides them.  Probably because he always makes that noise!  [smiley=laugh4.gif]

I have, as it happens, and after I take them out of the oven I sprinkle them with some grated cheese & brown them under the grill for 2 or 3 minutes. I am going to try the bacon thing (thanks for the tip) very soon.

Sweet potato souffle... yum!!  It isn't really a souffle, more of a baked sweet potato dish with lots of yummy ingredients, including pecans.   :)   I'll have to look for the recipe now.

He went to my homestate (Minnesota) in last night's episode. DH thinks I'm nuts; he was going through Minneapolis in the dead of winter and I got hit with this sudden urge of homesickness.  DH couldn't understand how one could miss such a cold, un-inhabitable place ;D
