Cool--I may be up for the book meeting given that it will be in January, which gives me an extra month to read, and given that it's something I probably will like reading (I'm halfway through Wuthering Heights at the moment and enjoying it)!  [smiley=book.gif]

Most likely won't make the Christmas Market--it's hubby's birthday weekend and I'm not sure what's going on yet....

Please join!!!  As for the market, I will post another thread closer to the time to see how many will actually make it so you will know the time, etc.  You can decide then if you want to come :)  If not, I know you will have a great time celebrating your hubby's birthday!!

Our next meetup will be at the German Christkindlmarkt in Leeds around 6 pm on December 6th :)

Yaye!  :)

Okay - I'm going to be garishly American here... bold, daring, outspoken, and a little rash (as a side note - did anyone watch Top Gear last night. I coughed my lungs out of my chest I was laughing so hard)

Since we're reading serious literature for January, and since I've been going stir crazy with this heinous cold/drama thing, I was thinking about what movies might be made into books in 2009 so that we could do a little book/movie thing as a club.  "Confessions of a Shopaholic" by Sophie Kinsella is a book which has been made into a movie that is being released in February. It seems like a fun book along the lines of The Nanny Diaries, Devil Wears Prada, etc  AND it's set in London.  It's well-reviewed on Amazon, and seems like a mindless read.  So I am going to be bold and daring and put that forward as a possible suggestion for our February book, with a tie in to the movie being released I think Feb 20th.

I echo Mrs. R's "Yaye"s for everything else.  Where should we meet in January?

No worries on being bold!  That sounds like a great idea :)

I was thinking this could be the ordering of the books so far

January-The Tenet
February-Confessions of a Shopaholic and perhaps go see the movie?
March-Thomas Hardy
April-Taste: The Story of Britain Through Its Cooking (because June Cleaver mentioned she wanted to read it :))

And welcome aboard Springhaze!!!  Since the next meeting is in Leeds for the Christkindlmarkt, I was thinking the January meeting could be in Harrogate.  Sort of switch it back and forth...

Hope this suits everyone!  We can discuss more book selections later on but for now we have the next few months settled?  If anyone has any problems, let me know!!  :)

I'm fine with that order:

January - The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte
February - Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
March - Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy
April - Taste: The Story of Britain Through Its Cooking by Kate Colquhoun

Love the variety!  Hoping that's good for everyone else 'cos I'm about to place an Amazon order to get number 1, 2 & 4.  :)

I would think once we get through those four, some of the more recently joining members (Andee?  springhaze?  persephone?  etc...) would be ready to take a turn at choosing a book.

I'm really happy this is coming together with such a great plan - thanks swelch2!  :-*

I'm fine with that order, and will be imitating Mrs. R with an Amazon order of my own (for all of them, however)!  How awesome that this is all coming together so well!

I must have missed June Cleaver's suggestion previously, because considering the reputation of British food, I'm incredibly intrigued by her choice!

I think it was on Meg's list of book nominations originally, and then June Cleaver indicated she was particularly interested in that one.  I agree it sounds intriguing as well!  :)

I ***love*** British food - what's not to like?!!!!  Meat pies, roasts, sausages, potatoes, gravy, Yorkshire puddings, pasties, fish-n-chips, mushy peas, curry, etc...!  ;D  I'm hungry!!!!!

Tip on the Shopaholic book...if you're ordering from Amazon.co.uk...the original British title The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic is £2 cheaper (same book) than the American title Confessions....

Oy vey!  My neighbour called in this evening with the reading list for the other book group I'm joining...for March, I'll be reading Thomas Hardy Far From the Madding Crowd for our group here, and 100 Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez for the local group.  Lord, what have I got myself into!  [smiley=bigcry.gif]  :)  (and they both meet the same week - one on Wednesday, one on Saturday!)

I wanted this!  Yes I did!  Just the kick in the bottom I need to get reading.  Note to self:  cancel all social plans, lock the doors, and start reading...  :P

Hey but I'm ahead of schedule for the local group's choice in July 'cos I've already read Chesil Beach:)
