What are you knitting?
« on: January 02, 2009, 10:10:56 PM »
And how's it going? I just started knitting a week ago and I'm obsessed! ;D

So far I've made a Very Easy Hat and three cat toys, which the cat has completely ignored. I need some catnip. :P

I'm knitting a bag with a big heart on it for my 6-year old niece out in California. I have the bag part done, now I just need to knit the handles which are made of two I-cords and I have no idea how to do that! I need to go visit my mother-in-law for instruction on that because I'm not understanding the instructions in my book.

I too was obsessed with knitting when I started. It's very addictive!

Elynor, are you on Ravelry yet? You can get lots of patterns, advice, etc. over there!  :)

Elynor!  You have to teach me :)  I had my MIL try over the holidays and I seemed to fail miserably....:(  Where did you get started?

My mother taught me, and I've got a couple of books. I can try to teach you if you want. No guarantees, though!

I used to knit when I was a teenager - my grandma taught me, but I've not done it since then.  I've thought about trying to get back into it, but seems there's always so many other things to be done.  I just made simple things like slippers, caps and scarves - nothing big.  I liked knitting, but I could never get the hang of crocheting - other than a single strand - lol!

I used to knit as a child, and wasn't bad! I made clothes for my teddy bear! But I seem to be hopeless at it now as an adult. I've found this book to be helpful, though, along with YouTube videos by The KnitWitch (she explains things really slowly and clearly).

I do believe your cow is convincing evidence to the contrary. :P ;D

Thanks for the info on how to learn how to knit via books and online.  I knew how to crochet (a little) when I was a kid (taught by a great-aunt) but I always wanted to learn how to knit.  I was looking for classes around Harrogate - but they just don't exist (or at least I can't seem to find them - my google-fu must be off).

Have a look at this site. It'll give you info on knitting groups in your area. You could either join one, or get in touch with them to ask about classes.

Or try checking on Ravelry. I Googled "knitting groups" and Harrogate and found quite a lot of stuff!

I will have a look at the online resources and maybe we can all get together for a knitting party!!  Oh, Yorkshire Knitters-I feel a new group forming :) :)

I'm knitting my dog a scarf.  I started it months ago, but put it aside because I was busy with studying and work.  I'm going to try to finish it this weekend.
