I've bought a couple jars from the Kosher/Polish section at Tesco (they're all mixed up in our local store) and they don't seem to be too bad.  Certainly better than the Bramwell's brand at Aldi.  They are Dawtona brand, called "dill cucumbers" and while they have sugar in them, they also have lots of sprigs of dill and slices of garlic.  It's been so long since I had a good dill pickle that my view of them might be clouded, though.

My favorite pickles were always those huge ones you get in a giant jar for $1 at Wal-Mart...sad, I know, but I loved 'em.

Man this is still bugging me. I've spent over 40 pounds trying out pickles.....lol. I've only found one I can tolerate but it was at an American type store a ways away from me and costs 5 pounds for a small jar. In America I was a pickle snob, my favorite kind being Classens.

Brand names and pictures of ones you've found and liked would be appreciated.

Tesco had something like a dill pickle in their International foods aisle.  I think it was in the Jewish food section, but can't remember the name.  I missed the sweet baby gherkins when I was there.   Could not find anything even close.

Yeah, Tim found some for me in a big jar at Tesco, but it's been too long ago for me to remember the brand. I think I also found some at the local co-op.

If you see the Melis brand anywhere, give those a try. They're Turkish, but taste similar to Mezzetta to me. Budgens have them and I've seen them in Middle Eastern shops too.
