I want a source of chilled ones - like Clausens. I can't stand the flabby texture of most pickles - even in the US. They have to be big, full flavoured, and CRISP. Vlasics will do in a pinch but I much prefer the chilled ones. Doubt I stand a chance of finding them here, though....

Me too.  I love Clausens, but I love the pickles from my local farmer's market more.

Right?! They used to sell cold, crispy pickles at Costco in Reading. I can't remember the brand, but the jar had a homemade looking label. Unfortunately, they stopped carrying them.

I asked my BFF to bring a jar of pickles for me when she comes for a visit in 2 weeks, but she refused on the grounds that she hates pickles and if the jar busts then all of her clothes and shoes will smell of pickles and she would have to kill me. The nerve!!!  :P
Oh well, I like the gherkins here, would just like to change it up and have a sour one once in a while...

Man, this thread is making me crave/miss/want some giant whole dill pickles.

Oh no-o-o-o-o...

I think the closest thing is the pickles at Subway. Man, I miss pickles... ala Americana!

I know the feeling.  There's a girl that works in the Subway near me that gives me a small container of pickle slices with my sandwich.  I think she probably thinks I'm a bit nutty, but that is the only time I get pickles.  Every jar I've bought have been sweet.  Blech.  I'll have to try the Sainsbury's ones over the weekend.

Everytime Dh & I go to Subway the people give me the weirdest looks when I ask for extra extra pickles I love pickles.  ::)  for our Anniversary Dh got me a jar of Valasic pickles from a online import store I was a happy camper when I saw them.  ;D  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]  we don't have a Sainsbury near us either I think we are out of there delivery range.  :(

Yummmmmmmmmmmmm.  I'm trying to block them out.  My favorite food on Earth is Clausen kosher dill pickes. I know I'll never find anything like that here :( I've even toyed with the idea of trying to make them, but I know I'd be too disappointed if they weren't the same, so I just whine and moan ;D

My brother in law is going to grow me cucumbers this summer so I can try and make refrigerator pickles.

I just need to order the mixes from home.

Clausens are my favorites. So fresh tasting and crisp. I love their relish too.

Hi!
Uh..dont forget Skyco has free delivery if you order ₤50 or more, (easy to do).
Only a tenner a year to become a member and they carry Heinz dills and Vlasic. Not too pricey, Only a few pounds a jar.

I also have found a cheap trick my dad did when we were younger helps here

We bought a pretty pricey brand of pickles that were dill from Lupe Pintos and have been able to refill it with thin sliced cucumbers, let it sit for a few days in the fridge and now we have more pickles. So just dont drink the juice and you can have more yummies!

Not to make you all super jealous, but I am in Boca Raton Florida right now and I went to a Kosher Deli yesterday for lunch and ate about 100 kosher dill pickles. I would eat more if I could...I am pregnant! :D

Brag away. ;) God willing, tomorrow at about this time I'll be sitting down to a bowl of matzo ball soup at Katz with about a bucketful of pickles on the side. :D
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

BFF decided she would bring me one of those giant movie-theatre pickles in the plastic wrapper when she comes!

I found some pickles at Morrison's that claim to be dill, but they are still pretty sweet. They aren't too bad, though, compared to some others, and at least they are nice and big! Something with a K... Krakos, or something like that?
