Yorkshire Yanks Book Club - Sat March 7th Meeting
« on: February 17, 2009, 10:11:49 AM »
Saturday, March 7

We are going to be discussing Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy.

Our meeting on Saturday, March 7th will be at 1 pm in Leeds city centre, at the Tiled Hall Cafe in the Leeds City Art Gallery, which is right on The Headrow near Leeds Town Hall.  We opted for the earlier start time of 1 pm, as the venue is only open until 5 pm on Saturdays.  Note admission to the Art Gallery is free, so your only cost (apart from travel) would be whatever you want to eat or drink from the cafe.

The cafe is big & beautiful, and I think there should be sufficient space for us, but the chairs aren't as comfy as at Milans in Harrogate.  I'll probably be getting lunch as 1 pm is about my lunch time.  Once we are all gathered, if we decide we're not comfortable or too cramped or anything, we can always repair to a nearby pub instead.  ;)

*bump*

This is just over a week away now, peeps - and I am diligently reading away!  :)

Who's planning to come?  Also, are the Harrogate peeps planning to organise yourselves & travel over together?  Just wondering as I think we'll have a new member coming from over your way.

Speaking for the Harrogate ladies... we'll organize a meet up at the train station and then - coordinating with anyone who might be coming through Harrogate on another train connection - travel together to Leeds.  Mrs. Cleaver, do you want to jump on at Weeton and meet us en route?

I haven't read the book - life crises - and it could be sort of an emotional day, so I'll say maybe.   ;D

I've just picked up the library copy and will try to get it read before Saturday, but I'm sleeping something like 18-20 hours a day at the moment, so no promises!!  ;D  Chris and I may be driving down together so that we can visit IKEA afterwards - otherwise I will be on the train.  We have another new member coming up from Sheffield, hopefully - ExtraordinaryGeorgiaGyrl is reading the book already! ;D

*hugs*  Feel like I haven't seen you in AGES - hope you're up to coming Saturday, book or no book.  [smiley=hug.gif]

Seriously - considering that our book club meets are more chat and b*tch and mutual support sessions with the premise of discussing a book, I'd have to say that reading the book is not a requirement, but extra credit :)

Persephone, Meg, let me know if your trains take you through Harrogate!

Aren't most book clubs like this?   ;D

exjerseygirl, I'm PM'ing you the details I have for janine - as she's not been on the forum since a week ago.

Please could those who have not yet picked a book - if you're coming to the March meeting - please consider nominating a book pick?  This means you - cinbin, persephone, janine, and anyone else who's not picked something but would like to!  :)

I've got a suggestion from HME for reading Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates, now a major motion picture starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate WInslet!  :D  HME and I discussed saving this one for later in the summer, however.

And yaye for new members - welcome!  Including ExtraordinaryGeorgiaGirl and janine!  :)

Oh & I do hope that persephone decides to come!  I do understand, but maybe it'll be a cheerful thing to do?  :-*

Hello All!

I just started the book last night so I hope I finish it in time.  I'm excited about meeting you all and I will try to come up with some good books to put up for nomination.  Thank you!

Janine

I'm finally getting around to possibly joining.  I won't be coming to next weeks do, but I might be able to do the next one - if I could just find out the book & when.   ;)  I'll keep my eyes open to find out more.  Have fun next Saturday!
