I'd actually already emailed him to tell him I was thinking about him. :) I check in on him every few months. Next time may be in person, thankfully!

Lucky I didn't go into a big spiel with a goodbye and everything though. Just a "I heard you're having a tough time and I'm thinking about you" and "sending my love."
Finally living with my Husband in London after 6 1/2 years together but apart... and loving my life!

But it turns out this was a giant game of Telephone/Chinese Whispers.  ::) Turns out he actually is going to be having a rather intense round of chemo, and it will take him "7-10 days to recover"!!! I discovered this just a couple hours ago.... How my friend heard the misinformation from multiple people is beyond me. But I am very thankful that although he will be having a tough time, he is still relatively okay. And also, rather irritated at needlessly having to process this devastating news for an entire day.
That explains it then. I'm sure he will appreciate all the support he can get, even so. Glad it's not as bad as feared.

One of Mr MLG's uncles is in hospital due to ischaemic bowel disease. Hopefully, he gets released from the high dependency unit today following surgery. Otherwise, it looks like we are headed south........ :-\\\\

Thanks for the wishes all.

Gosh, I didn't write that too clearly. He got through surgery OK but had some kind of blip yesterday that needed monitoring, hence staying in HDU. All being well he should have been shifted to the ward today. Apparently, he was his grumpy self post surgery, so that seems good. Just worried is all.  :-\\\\ Hopefully, we'll get an update soon from the in laws.

Hope he's better, MLG!

That American woman who worked where I do - that on yesterday, we found out she had passed away...  It's a really sad story.  As I mentioned on the other thread, she'd had ongoing health problems with her back, high blood pressure, asthma & breathing troubles (although she smoked like a chimney).  She apparently went home from work early last Thursday or Friday, saying that one of her legs was hurting her quite a lot.  One of my coworkers told her she really ought to go & get it checked out if it was hurting that badly.  She said - no, she'd be fine & didn't go to the doctor, just went home.

And so she didn't turn up for work on Monday & didn't ring in.  She was the primary receptionist & PA to the senior staff, so she would always ring in if she was poorly to let someone know what meetings, conferences, catering, etc were supposed to be on that day.  Eventually after not hearing from her for awhile, they sent someone who knew where she lived over to check on her - either late Monday or early Tuesday.  They knocked & couldn't raise anyone.  Then they approached her landlord to see if he (or she) would let them in to see if she was okay.  The landlord wouldn't let them in, but apparently called the police who found her.  We don't know what she died of - probably won't until they do a post mortem.  We wonder if she had a blood clot in the leg that was hurting her when she left, and also how long she had been dead (from when she left work that Thursday or Friday, until they found her on Tuesday).

She lived by herself with her cats.  She has some family down around Gloucestershire, and some extended family in the US.  Found out today that earlier this year she had finally located a son that she had given up for adoption when she was young, and they had plans for the whole family to get together for Christmas this year.

Like I said, I wasn't close friends with her, but everyone knew her.  She was only around 58-59 years.  Just so sad for her & her family & her cats.

That's incredibly sad. My sympathies to all her friends, family and coworkers. :(

Sad. Kind of makes you think: if I didn't turn up to work one day would they even notice? Good these people made an effort so quickly, even if too late.
