[mod note]

Nothing really.  Just ignore me.  Carry on.  Really.  I LOVE coming on here every ten minutes and telling people off.  Gives me something to do.

Hi - wanted to know something...

Since my hubby don't have a bank account - he's stated this in his letter of intent. Here's what the letter says :

Dear Sir/Madam,

I, xxxx xxxxx, work as a Switchboard Operator at xxxxxxx located in xxxxx, Birmingham, UK and earn approximately 1300/monthly in GB pounds after taxes.

I would like for my wife, xxxx xxxx, to settle with me in the United Kingdom permanently. I can financially support my wife and maintain all living expenses. I can provide her with accommodation, food, and clothing as well as other living costs. We will be living together in my apartment located at the address mentioned below.

I first met my wife, xxxx, when I was on holiday in Florida, United States. This was in January 2003. We had numerous meetings online, conversations through phone and email. We were together for nearly 2 years until we decided to get married. She came over with her family to the United Kingdom and we were married in a civil ceremony in my hometown of Birmingham. xxxx and I would like to settle in the United Kingdom permanently as is happy here and it feels like home to her.

I have provided the required documents in support of xxxx's application. I apologise that I am not able to provide any bank statements as I closed my account years ago. This was due to losing my checkbook during a move and I have not opened an account since this time. xxxxx  has opened an account in the United Kingdom which will be a joint account as she will be adding my name onto it. I hope you find the documents I did provide sufficient enough and can proceed with issuing xxx's entry clearance. If you require any further information or evidence, please do let me know.

I respectfully request you to grant my wife with a UK Spouse Visa.

Is this ok to explain the bank account - shouldnt be a prob anyways but i figured explanation is needed so they arent wondering why.

Is my hubby's letter ok?

He doesn't have a bank account because he lost his checkbook.  This is the excuse for not providing bank statements?

You already used the "I lost this during a move " with your passport so I would come up with something else to explain why you closed your checking account.
Didn't your husband know he would have to provide his finances so why didn't he contact the bank when he lost his checkbook and have new checks issued?

Yes, I'd suggest going with the truth in this next draft...

From this post:

As you probably also know, he doesn't have a bank account. He was in too many arrears and once he payed them all off, he closed his account.

You're right - they WILL want an explanation. You're wrong in thinking that just any old explanation will do.  How about the truth?

I respectfully request you to grant my wife with a UK Spouse Visa.

If it were me, I would change this line to something like
Quote
I appreciate your time and attention regarding my wife's visa application.

To me, it smacks of arrogance to have you/your husband request that they grant a visa - you're already doing that by paying the fee and sending in your stuff.  Now just thank them for the time it will take them to sort out:
1. your overstay
2. your funds/lack of bank account
3. your husband's funds/lack of bank account
4. the rest of your application.

I agree with the above posters that a lost passport due to moving AND a lost checkbook (which, as others noted, isn't exactly a death blow to a bank account) sounds a bit fishy.

I used to work for one of the banks in the UK, and people often lost their cheque books. We simply cancelled the book and that was that. I am not sure why anyone would close their account due to a lost cheque book unless someone wrote a lot of cheques out of the book and they were honoured.

xxxxx  has opened an account in the United Kingdom which will be a joint account as she will be adding my name onto it.

Hmmm...  I didn't notice this immediately.  Opening or creating a UK bank account whilst in illegal status in the UK changes the complexion of things somewhat.

According to several of the OP's previous posts, she opened the bank account whilst on a 6-month visitor visa that was granted after her overstay period.  So even though she shouldn't have been able to open the account as a visitor, she wasn't actually in breach at the time.

She also got a Provisional Drivers License and registered with a GP and the NHS during the 4 year overstay however.

Those are the documents that she has been asking repeatedly if she should include.  She has been advised by an immigration adviser to include the bank statements from her UK bank and her UK drivers license.
