What do you bring back from the US when you visit?
« on: November 10, 2009, 01:30:19 PM »
I'm trying to think of all the crucial things I want to bring back from my visit, so I don't just end up with a suitcase full of Triscuits.  :P What do you guys really just have to bring back with you when you go?

I know for a fact I am bringing back some Cetaphil cream and some Crest White Strips.  :)

Hidden Valley Ranch packets
Tootsie Rolls
As much clothing as I can get into the suitcase
new suitcase I always end up buying as I've bought too much.
Pepperidge Farm goldfish crackers

And about an extra 5 lbs from all the Taco Bell I ate while there. Mmmm... Taco Bell. I go on the 19th and I can hardly wait.

Lawrys Coarse ground Garlic Salt! Last year we brought 2 large bottles home and we ran out about 3 months ago. Methinks this time we're bringing back 4! I also buy clothes there since (because of my plus size butt) it's hard for me to find clothes that fit me here without resorting to extortionist internet shopping!

We also bring back HUGE costco size bottles (500 ct) of Ibuprofen and I get my generic (300 ct) Claritin, Nyquil, Dayquil...pretty much all the normal usage cold/allergy/headache remedies.

Thanks!  ;D It's my first time back, it's been 16 months. I feel kind of weird about it, but I'm excited, too.

I've bought maple syrup everywhere, and believe me, I am a total snob about it being 100% pure maple syrup. It can be a bit hard to find when you are in the shop, though, so if you don't see it, check all the top shelves by the honey, or ask a staff member. I brought a HUGE bottle with me when I moved, only to find it here the first time I went to the shops.

I keep saying I don't want to bring much back with me, but the list keeps getting longer, plus I have to bring back my acoustic guitar and a huge quilt my grandma made for us, plus another box of stuff at my mom's, so I have a feeling that our suitcases will be full, and I have no idea how I am going to get all of that, plus all of us into the car when I leave! So the plan is to try to limit it to things I really, really want. It's tough, though. :P

Schmucker's Grape Jelly
With all the wonderful jams and preserves here in the UK and you want Schmucker's grape jelly?!   :D

I'd probably bring back Cheeze Its or Nips (I always forget which I like better), maybe Goldfish crackers (not the colored ones--yuck!) and maybe some of the awesome vegan cookies they sell at my old work.

But Jewlz--that's cool you are bringing your guitar over--and a home-made quilt!

I love my mom's homemade pomegranate jelly...best stuff on earth. She made us 2 cases of it for our wedding last year and everytime we visit we bring back 4 or 5 jars! It usually lasts us about a week  :P

Yeah! Now if I could only learn to play! It was my dad's guitar, and it's so beautiful, I feel sad it's a bit wasted on me when I have no clue how to play. A friend taught me to play 3 chords, so maybe I could play the Ramones or something, if I still remember them.  :P

Ha ha!  With three chords you *could* get out a Ramones song or two!  But maybe you should take lessons (when your driving lessons are done)?

My list gets shorter every year, and now that they've lowered the number of checked suitcases I fear it will have to continue to shrink!

- Giant bottles of Excedrin
- Hidden Valley packets
- Mexican cooking staples (tins of tomatillos, tinned crema, dried chilies, masa harina, etc)
- Annie's mac & cheese
- Pudding mixes (I don't really like pudding, but from time to time I have a weird craving so I like to have it on hand)
- Coffee
- Bagels (particularly if we make a trip during the magical Pumpkin Bagel season!)
- Marshmallow fluff IF we travel before Christmas 'cause I would only ever use it for my Christmas fudge!

And that's about it, really. I used to bring back Krusteaz muffin mixes but I seem to have lost my taste for them.
