Coffee Addicts Unite!
« on: June 28, 2010, 07:29:55 AM »
OK so this is not exactly a food....But, Coffee is something that I really enjoy and I've been exploring the UK coffee's available in retail outlets and here are a few that I have found that I quite enjoy (especially since flavoured creamers are not readily available here):

1. My latest find is a Limited Edition from Taylors of Harrogate called 'Java Jampit'. It's a dark roast (5) but not acidic like Colombian coffees can be, with a hint of chocolate that makes it so yummy. It's recommended as an after dinner coffee but, to me, it's perfect for just waking up as I don't eat breakfast and really acidic coffees make my stomach feel not very nice. So  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] for Java Jampit.

2. Another Taylors coffee is the Hot Lava Java. It is a dark dark roast (6) and similar in flavor to the Java Jampit but can a bit overpowering if you tend to have more than 1 cup like I do.

Hopefully, my fellow Coffee Addicts that have thoughts on what they're drinking these days & want to share, will chime in. I'm always looking for new flavours to try!

COFFEE ADDICTS UNITE!!!  :P

What are you drinking today?

I can see that you are a true Coffee Connoisseur. I have to ask - how do you brew your coffee? Do you use a Cafetiere? or a drip machine? I brought some good coffee home from the US after my last trip, and just can't seem to make it taste as good as the shop!

I'm a horrible coffee addict.

I'm drinking 8 o'clock coffee from the US. Freshly ground. Made in a drip machine.  Scotland has gorgeous water, it makes a lovely cup of coffee.

MrsRupert, how is your water quality? That can have a big impact on the taste.

Love my coffee, drink a lot of Bustello spanish coffee with almost boiled milk, the water makes it taste a lil different but still good, use a drip machine

MrsRupert - You're right, I love my coffee  ;D

I have a drip machine that my husband bought me for Christmas last year, but as I like my coffee quite strong I found that I was using nearly 1/4 of a bag to make a 10 cup pot and it would get pretty nasty tasting if it sat longer than an hour or so.

So I've gone back to my 1 cup cafetiere that I got at Woolies for £1 before they went out of business here in Derby in 2008. I only use 1 spoonful and I love it hot, fresh & strong, plus if I let it sit for a few more minutes it becomes almost as strong as espresso and I can make other coffee based drinks as well. Right now my favourite (other than standard cup o joe) is a version of an Iced Macchiato.

I also use fresh filtered water from my Brita Pitcher and it makes the best tasting coffee.

I've actually given up coffee and caffeine in general.  I am going to try to at least do it for the summer (it seems to help me sleep better despite the early sunrise).  I may or may not go back to it, but I feel a lot better without it.  Weird, I know because I think the "well being" goes beyond just better sleep.

I may or may not be a connoisseur.  I love Ethiopian coffee.  Ethiopian Yirgacheffe is my favourite, but I've not seen it easily available here.  My every day coffee was this Ethiopian Sidamofrom Sainsbury's. Cheap (you can sometimes get two bags for £4) and not bad at all.  However, for the six months leading up to me giving up coffee, I'd drink this Sundried Quinchia.  Both were pretty good in my moka pot, drip, or pressed.

I tried a Taylors of Harrogate (but I think it was a blend of some sort) and wasn't impressed.  If I go back to coffee, I will definitely give them another try.

One of my favourites is Percol Americano.

Currently we have some Taylor's of HArrogate as there was an offer at Morrison's, and very impressed.
We also usually bring some Wawa coffee back from the US, or get friends to bring some back if they are going to the Philly area....I love their hazelnut flavoured coffee.

Despite the fact that my stomach doesn't always approve, I have acquired a taste for coffee in the past couple of years.  I've been really enjoying Americanos since I've come over here.  My BF has a little espresso machine so we're always making coffee on the weekends.

We've found, as ridiculous as it is, that we REALLY like the coffee from IKEA, so every time we go we stock up on it at the little shop.

It's funny, I was a barista for 5 years and drank maybe a couple of mochas during that entire time.  I always preferred tea.  Now I'm wondering how I could have wasted all that potential free gourmet coffee!  The brand we used was Gavina.  I've had it since and it's really nice.  If you like flavoured coffee, Nutty Doodle was always the big seller for us.  Hmmmm, might see how I can go about getting some of that actually...

I live in London, so at best, my water is average. I had a Brita water filter in the US, and guess I'll get one here as well.

I like the idea of a one cup cafetiere. I got one at Whittard's of Chelsea not too long ago. Guess my hubby will just have to wait for his cup ;D

I too LOVE my coffee. I've currently got a supply of my favourite Dunkin Donuts coffee from recent trip back to the states.
I also like Taylors  of Harrogate from here. I use one of these to my fresh hot cup each and every time

We love coffee in our house, and I am currently drinking several types depending on the mood.

We always have a few pounds of Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla in the house (we haven't run out in about 4 years, my sister just bought 8 lbs over in May) and thats mainly what my husband drinks, he uses a one cup Melitta over the cup filter. We also have a Tassimo capsule type machine, and we love the Starbucks blend, but mainly for iced coffee (which we drink pretty much everyday) I love Zgoz Vietnamese coffee, its very strong and it has chicory in it, and at the moment I am drinking quite a lot of the new Starbucks Via instant coffee....its a great cup of coffee quickly, and as I like mine really hot, it suits perfectly (and they have it at Costco so its a bit cheaper.) I ALWAYS drink my coffee with condensed milk....delish!!!

I want a cup now!!!

Another coffee addict here!

Right now in the States I drink a lot of coffee. When I finally settle with my wife in the UK (hopefully soon), I'm eager to find out what kind of coffee they have there.
Married to Kellie2010.

Not a coffee addict, but I do like coffee very much.  I don't do much flavored coffee (or any at all to be honest!) because hubby doesn't like it.

When I finally settle with my wife in the UK (hopefully soon), I'm eager to find out what kind of coffee they have there.
One thing you will find is that the UK is rife with instant coffee.  For many people that's all they know.  Cheap, nasty instant coffee.  Ah well, it's still a tea-drinking nation.

In the States I'm a total Peet-nik.  I had a Latte Macchiato there the other day and was a happy camper.

I like Peet's Arabian Mocha Java in my big French Press (4 cups?) one hot cup in the morning, and then the rest over ice with skim milk during the rest of the day.  Makes my soul sing.

I think my all time fave coffee place is Philz Coffee (I don't know how to make a fancy link but philzcoffee.com ) if you're ever in the Bay Area Philz will make you swoon.   ;D
