Been to County Galway, Ireland for a few days. Obviously this mainly meant Guinness, but found a great brew pub in Galway itself called Oslo Bar. (Think they also have 2 other places in the city) Had their house beers - Galway Bay Brew Company's Bay Ale (a red ales) and Full Sail IPA. Both very nice. Also had Metalman Brew Company's (Waterford) Pale Ale.
All just on tap, no cask ale.

Whilst in the small fishing village of Roundstone, one pub had bottles of O'Hara craft beers, but at €4.95 a bottle I gave a miss. I did find them in a supermarket though at half the price so bought a bottle each of the red ale, the IPA and the stout. All worth sampling if nothing special.

Oh and in one bar in Galway I got Galway Hooker on tap.

So just to show that Ireland doesn't have to be all Guinness but I certainly drank my share of that!

Ossett Silver King!!!
Granted, it's in one of the worst real ale shops in town, but still... Ossett Silver King!!!  One of my favourite beers of all time!  :D

We have found Fuller's London Pride! JOY! The liquor store where we found it also sells Fuller's ESB, quite a range of Sam Smith's and Hobgoblin! Hooray! We just happened to stop in last night and was amazed by their selection.

Yay!

That is how hubby is feeling.  ;D He has been searching high and low for London Pride since we moved back here. Now that he has found it, he has decided that he does, in fact, like ESB better. UP until now, he thought he loved them equally.

I bought a whole bunch of various Scottish brewed beers in Aldi yesterday -some bottle conditioned, some high alcohol content (6-7%), some just because they looked yummy.  Lots of stuff from all over Scotland that I haven't seen in the bottle shops.  Never quite same as getting them poured from a cask, but cheaper and no taxi to town and back needed.  Looking forward to my beers this weekend!  :)

I may be too late with this warning, but avoid the TSA ones!  I think TSA is definitely the worst brewery in Scotland, with the nastiest beers.  Pretty sure they sell them in Lidl/Aldi.  :-X

No- no TSA ones.  I don't think their beers are horrible, there are plenty of nasty tasting lagers out there for instance,   but I'd definitely choose other beers over TSA first given the option.

The ones I got were all from smaller breweries, like Loch Ness and Oban and one in Fife.

Saw Bud Light in Tesco yesterday.  Not anything I would want to drink myself these days, having gotten spoilt by 'proper beer' in the UK- but, Bud Light used to be my beer of choice in my past life- and thought I thought I would point it out for anyone missing it. It wasn't cheap- something like £7.00 for a 6 pack, but if you're craving it -there you go!

A (teetotal) friend of mine decided to take an impromptu trip up to John O'Groats last Thursday, hugging the West coast and just stopping off and finding a b&b each day. So he finally made JoG yesterday and then said he was just going to drive straight back today as he was staying overnight in Golspie. So I looked on the map and saw his route back would take him close to Black Isle Brewery, so being the cheeky bugger I am I asked if he was passing could he pick me up a mixed case.
Even better, he just got in touch and told me what they had in, so it's a 20 x 500ml bottle case of 6 Blonde, 6 Yellowhammer, 6 Red Kite and 2 Porter, plus an 8 x 330ml case of 2 Heather Honey, 2 Golden Eye Pale, 2 Hibernator Oatmeal Stout and 2 Scotch Ale making it's way down!
 ;D

If anyone lives in or around Manchester there's an American beer festival taking place at The Beagle in Chorlton. As with a lot of bars around Manchester, they already have a good selection of American craft beers but this looks like a proper takeover :)

Guerilla Eats, the Manchester street food guys, will be cooking USA themed food too. I've never eaten any of their stuff but when we were at the pub last week their food selection looked tasty and varied - there were even plenty of vegan and veggie options for weirdo's like me!
