I'll keep an eye out for the Yard's. Sounds tasty!

They obviously do a few others as well.

We usually stock up on the Victory Pilsner when we visit, as the brewery is right down the road. We went even more local this time with a tasty super local Hershey brewery Troegs' Perpetual IPA. At 7.5% it was still pretty tame.

It's the presentation of my local CAMRA pub of the season award tonight to The Angler's Rest in Wombwell near Barnsley. Since last year this has been the brewery tap for Geeves Brewery. I've never been in this pub and I only rarely come across Geeves beers and I've always enjoyed....so at £2 a pint tonight and a quiz on as well it's time to ride the bus down there!

Had a great night - 5 Geeves beers on cask, all at £2 a pint and that included a 7.2% stout and a ginger flavoured wheat beer that I wasn't too fussed about after a taster. The other 3 I had, Tiller Girl (a nice, hoppy pale ale), Red Diesel (a red ale) and Smokey Joe (a stout with a smokey taste to it).

Didn't win the quiz though!

Brewery has only been in operation for 2 years, they took over the pub in 2nd half of last year. Well worth checking out if you see at beer festivals, I've also seen it in Wetherspoons but that may just be local.

Also have to say how friendly it was in this pub. It's about 5 miles out of town in a village, and you know what it's like sometimes when you go into a "locals pub" and you are eyed with suspicion. Not here - on walking through the door the bar maid/manageress shouted hello, I was straight away chatting with a regular at the bar etc. Great atmosphere - I'll be going back, helped by the bus dropping off right outside!

You probably got away with it, with your Barnsley accent. Me with my California-Glasgow hybrid, maybe no! Currently on Scapa Special,  which I think is from Highland--one of Phatbeetle's favorites.

Went to the Summer Beer Fest at Hawkshead brewery in Staveley last weekend.  There were 3 bars...outside, downstairs and upstairs.  I stuck to the beers available in the upstairs bar, as i was struggling to carry my pint up the stair with my other balancing, banister-grabbing arm incapacitated due to injury.

I wasn't being adventurous at all, sticking to brews I knew...

Alchemy Cairnpapple IPA
Bristol Sunrise
Coniston No9 Barley Wine
Dark Star APA
Hawkshead Windermere Pale
Hawkshead Cumbrian 5 Hop

And then we got a 4-pint carry-keg of Acorn Perfect 10 to drink on the train home.  That's the only one I'd never tried before, and it was lovely stuff!

Lots of people had brought their dogs, and so i had a grand day drinking beer and cuddling doggies.   [smiley=heart.gif]

Sounds like a great day out!  :)

I've had no interesting beers of note lately.Oh ,that' s not entirely true, I was in the Black Isle Brewery a few weeks ago and had some special 9-10% ales, one conditioned in a sherry cask and another one in a whisky cask.

But that was a few weeks ago, so I must rectify this and get some yummy beers!!

I like the sound of this....

Not had that yet, brewed to celebrate their 10th anniversay - hoping it's on in the Old No. 7 on Wednesday.
As you know, Acorn is local to me and the Old No. 7 is their brewery tap in town and a 5 minute walk away! I'm not being biased when I say Acorn beers are lovely, many people have said the same to me who aren't from these parts!

Just back from a week in Wales. Brain's pub 50 yrds from our cottage had SA on and my fave Rev. James.
There was a Camra guide pub 5 mins walk away called The Netpool, they had Sharp's Doombar and Kite Brewery (new Welsh microbrewery) Lion's Roar (special for the British Lions tour). Another 5 mins walk brought us to the White Hart...here had Felinfoel (in contrast the oldest brewery in Wales, and I'd never heard of it!) Double Dragon.
Also went to a brew pub, the Nag's Head about 10 miles from where we were staying.
And some bottles of Tomas Watkin's http://www.tomoswatkin.com/

I love IPAs and last weekend at Belladrum, the Black Isle tent had a gorgeous IPA on draught and I sure drank my fair share!  I have never seen it any pubs or in bottles or anything. I have been dreaming of it ever since.

I've disregarded my "No pumpkin stuff till September" rule because I'm having trouble dealing with gross summer weather. The pumpkin ales are out in the stores, and I'm a-drinkin' 'em!  :)
