Exactly!  And why didn't you sew a North American flag on your backpack?

The boiler at the rental is fixed!  Hallelujah!

Great! I had found you a possible replacement at a good price if it wasn't fixable! Anyone needing a boiler?!

Since I've been here, I've been asked if I'm everything from canadian to Australian! Lol

I misdialled a customer number one day and got done random bloke who asked me out on a date because he liked my accent and thought I must look hot

I get queries a lot about where I'm from, I guess a Midwest accent is really soft compared to northern and southern accents and people say they can't place me. My daughters teachers from Canada and she's pretty cool :D

Midwest is almost the "standard American dialect" though we have certain regionalisms as well. I'm from Minnesota (without the Scandinavian flair from Northern MN) and I get asked if I'm Canadian a lot. Haha. That or told "I could listen to you all day."
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

MPI, that’s completely out of order.  I hope whoever received the complaint told him to piss off.  Do you have a special accent other than American?

On NPR, they frequently get complaints about vocal fry, which is a vocal quality that's more common among young women.  NPR has come to the conclusion that complaining about vocal fry is really the same as complaining about having female presenters at all, so they send back a letter telling the person to go soak thier head.

Ugh. As a woman  who is in the vocal fry generation... I absolutely loathe it. I've done regional theatre, choir for 7 years and have 6 years of bel canto style voice training.

I just don't get why people choose to speak that way.

Sorry, it was actually Radiotopia, not NPR.  Here's the response they send back :

Lol - I don't even get Bristol/West Country and I was born and raised in the area :P.

I guess West Country can sound a bit Irish at times though... which can sound similar to American :P.

hahahaha it was a slow progression i guess.....When I first moved here, I got "Irish" a lot after my Boston accent died down....now I've moved from "Irish" to "Bristol/West Country"  8)

My IT guys always tell me we're so used to southern accents or the New York/ northern and such but yours is not common.

I do have a very soft voice though. It's funny because sometimes I'll call people I've never spoken to and they thing my companies outsourced to America, like cmon! But I've had it asked more than once.

I wonder if that's affected my job prospects where the phone is involved... but i have no cobfirmation on that one.

It's funny that they're only used to strong accents when most American movies don't use them! Haha. I did theatre back in the states so I usually have to work on being more quiet.

My neighbour excitedly gave me a cake yesterday to try that he made himself. He said ti was a really healthy cake with very little calories, no sugar, and only good things, but to try it first then he would tell me his "secret". I thought it was a flourless apple cake of some sort. I was so wrong.

This is by far one of the worst things I have ever eaten. I took a bite and spat it out. I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth. He texted me later to tell me it was sweet potato, caraway seeds (lots and lots and lots of caraway seeds) and pears. It was absolutely disgusting - tasted like a curry cake!

I am meant to bring him back his plate later...and I don't know what to say when I do!

Oh no! Caraway is sooooo easy to go overboard on and a little too much is waaaaay too much.

Can you return the plate when he's not home? Or maybe late at night?
