But I do now have a 10 year multi entry visa for China that will work even if it's in an expired passport.  So, there's that...

Out of sheer curiosity, how does that work?? Don't you have to send old passports in when you renew?? Or is it not actually inside the passport?
My, how time flies....

* Married in the US and applied for first spousal visa August 2013
* Moved to the UK on said visa October 2013
* FLR(M) applied for  May 2016. Biometrics requested June 2016. Approval given July 2016.
* ILR applied for January 2019 (using priority processing). Approved February 2019.
* Citizenship applied for May  2019
* Citizenship approved on July 4th 2019
* Ceremony conducted on August 28th 2019

You get your old passport returned to you when you renew it.

I have a valid US visa inside my expired UK passport - I just carry both passports with me when I fly to the US. They stamp my current passport and annotate it with VIOPP (Visa in Other Passport).

Where are you headed?  I LOVE China.

Yeah, me too. Lovely place. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]  Last time I went was a month's long holiday, but alas this is work.

Zhejiang and Guangdong Provinces and Minhang are the plan at the moment.

My huge IA today is tomorrow I'm supposed to fly to North Carolina. Bastarding snow. Hoping Edinburgh airport is open and my flight is able to leave.

I've been thinking about you. Our plans were cancelled because of it but we were able to re-schedule thankfully.
I really hope you get off ok.  [smiley=clover2.gif]

That's more than an IA! I hope the snow is clear and you're able to get back to see them.

Ahhh right okay. Only on my first passport renewal (still waiting - fingers crossed) so assumed it was like with your provisional where you have to send it back and they destroy it.

I rebooked my flight for Friday ahead of the inevitable cancellation. I'm lucky to have gotten the next flight since my flight was almost completely full and they do one flight from Edinburgh to Newark a day.

One day less with my kids but I feel ok about that. Better to be safe... My father in law was going to drive me and he's a bit of a nervous driver.

Are you able to stay any longer at the back end to make up for the later arrival at the start?  I know you're disappointed, but it's probably the right call to rebook now when it's just you trying to get a seat on the next flight, rather than waiting for the cancellation when you have to compete with 200 other passengers.

No. I can't stay any longer. It's a 2 day trip home (overnight flight) and I have to be back at work on the Monday.

It will be ok. I'll see my kids again this summer when they come for a visit.

It does give me an extra day to eat about 10lbs of sweeties that are making my luggage overweight.  Lolol

My husband already broke into the bag of Minstrels.

You're only going for the weekend?!  Ugh.  I'm so old... the thought of that exhausts me.  If I fly across the ocean, I need time to recover.  I want my visit time to exceed my traveling time by a factor of 5, at a minimum.  2 days traveling? 10 days visiting.

But I do hope you have a fantastic, if brief, time!  And, hopefully, the kids will be able to stay longer when they come over this way later in the year.

Oh... No way. I'm not coming back until the 10th. Arrive here on the 11th and back to work on the 12th.

No way I would do just a weekend.  Lol

hahahhaha!  I see what I did.  You said "It's a 2 day trip home", and I read "home" as back to your family home kind of thing.  And I really could not fathom that!  Yeah, your timeline is much more reasonable!  I could do the length of trip you're actually doing.
