My IAs this morning are:

Son and I got our permanent leave to remain back in Sept. Paid the £900 for the little stamp in our passports. Now, son's passport is due to expire and in order to get a new one, we have to travel to London since he is under 16. To get the PLTR stamp in the NEW passport, it will cost us somewhere in the territory of £200, or he can just carry the old and new together when he travels, but that has been known to cause problems. Now, hubby has decided that we should just let son's passport lapse since we aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Off to look for more info on what to do about all of that.

Second annoyance is this: People's nasty remarks about foreigners. I work in a shop in Boston and just last week someone had the nerve to complain about the foreigners (he meant the Eastern Europeans). I was very happy to point out to him that I am too a foreigner, to which he replied 'no, you're a friend'. WTH? What does that mean?

Hope

I've not heard of any problems caused by carrying two passports - many of us did this for years! You really don't have to pay for that added expense!

Isn't it a breach of immigration not to have a valid passport when you are a foreigner in a foreign country??

Wasted the entire morning trekking back and forth to the MVA. First I didn't have enough documentation of residence. Then the Social Security website was down. And now I can't use the car anymore because the nanny needs it to shuttle kids. :( (Wouldn't mind that, except it means I have to go back tomorrow, too.)

Trying to co-ordinate selling our car, moving out of our flat and getting down to Heathrow car-less, with child in tow with 3 bags, 3 carry ons & 1 changing bag...Nightmare  :-\\\\

It's tough but manageable.  When I moved here alone with 2 oversized bags, 1 carry on and 3 cats in cages, I rented a car with an agreement to return it to the airport area.  It was very stressful and not entirely economical, but it went off without a hitch (except baby kitty pooping in crate and all of us having to deal with the smell for about 2 hours).   :)
...the whole damn thing will turn
and return redefined, rearranged, rearranged...

I think we finally figured it out. We're going to a hotel here in Derby so we can move out of the flat. We'll hire a car for the weekend so we can run back & forth. Then we're taking the coach direct from Derby to Heathrow and then a taxi to our hotel there & then back to the airport for the flight the next day. So hopefully it won't be too awful.

How's this weekend sound? ;) Baking Bites is my absolute favourite recipe blog ever and she's posted recipes for all the major Girl Scout cookies. I've not tried these, but I've made something like 30-40 of her other recipes and they've all worked perfectly.

Thank you so much for this as I was just talking to my two kids about Girl Scout Cookies earlier this week! I now know what we will be doing while they are out for this half term! ;D

I've been resisting the G.S. cookies -- although I do like to support the Girl Scouts.
