As a Brit, we are rather bland individuals but we do seem to suffer with what I've come to call the false sense of superiority problem. Possible a hangover from the Victorian era and the class system?
I do encounter this actually quite a bit but never usually in person! I always see this online (usually Reddit in the r/AskUK sub or something) where the people there almost seem to have this sense of superiority over things that are quite culturally similar even to Americans but they just don't like or can't fathom that they would be compared to Americans. It just absolutely seems to boil their blood! BUT, in real life, I rarely find these types of confrontations...
What was wrong with your coat? I don't understand!
I wear a mask a lot in public, and others with my condition really should but they won't because of the looks and comments they receive.
I've found that this seems to be the case everywhere except Asia because it's more the cultural norm there. For them, it's considerate to wear masks to not make others ill or to make sure that you, yourself, don't get ill. Doesn't seem to just be Brits that give it weird reactions (it's almost like human beings in the western world in general are afraid you are some sort of "patient 0" or something!), but after seeing how the Japanese do it, I honestly think every country should adopt this approach!
I think that must very much depend on what part of the country you're in! I don't see any evidence of that at all here... I fit right in!
I'm wondering if it's a generational thing as well. I know it seems to be younger people (in both the US and UK) that are OBSESSED with having expensive brand names. I've not noticed an increase in this since moving by any means (beyond brand names in the UK seeming to actually be more affordable than the brand names I knew people were into back in the US- but that might also be because I'm older now too) but do notice the difference between younger generations and their obsession with brand names vs. older generations (not suggesting you're an older generation btw..when I say younger, I literally mean like mid-20's and younger typically from my experience).
I'm sure it does. And I think most people really mix up their wardrobe - a few nice pieces with some budget pieces mixed in.
But look at people's handbags. WOW. People drop some cash on those. At least where I am they do!
Are you sure they are all authentic??

I've seen a lot of AMAZING knock-offs since living in this country. Apparently Turkey is where it's at for EXPENSIVE but spot-on knock-offs as well lol. Or being able to get expensive brand names in T.K. Maxx for CHEAP. I got my Betsey Johnson bag there for a heffffttyyyyy markdown.
I used to work for a shopping channel
I
DID NOT see that coming...
We have a guy in the office who makes £19,500 a year who drives a Porsche. Late model, nice model....
I cannot count the number of women who make below £20k, yet have a Mulberry bag (about £1k each).
Rik and I say all the time how now a-days, just because you have a nice car, it doesn't actually mean that they own that car or make a lot of money. They could easily have the car on loan. Our surveyor was driving a Tesla and Rik said "wow this guy must make LOADS! I'm in the wrong field!" and look up how much surveyors make and they don't actually even make as much as we thought!
