I'd buy the school I work for and get rid of all the people who are weighing it down and holding it back, then I'd increase the salaries of all the good employees to at least three times what they're making now. I'd renovate the building and put in some modern teaching tools, more computers, wood floors instead of grotty carpets, a new kitchen in the staff room--total redo of the staff room in fact. Then I'd put an end to the stupid marketing methods they use and hire a professional marketing manager, then when our student numbers began to increase as a result, I'd build some new classrooms, hire new teachers, create new courses, and improve the social programme.
I'd fund scholarships for middle-class people whose parents are too rich to qualify for need-based aid but too poor to afford the ridiculous tuition fees. I'd also fund projects to build affordable housing and to help people buy their first homes. And I'd give more to Shelter and to the RSPCA. Oh, and I'd fund arts and languages education programmes.
Also, I'd have flats in lots of cities that I love: London, Paris, Osaka, San Francisco, San Diego, Chicago, Montreal, Edinburgh, and a house in Dorset that bears a close resemblance to Chary's house in Cornwall. I'd want a traditional Japanese house in Kyoto as well. All my flats and houses would be stocked with clothing appropriate to the location, so that I wouldn't have to carry any luggage when I travelled between them. I'd do a PhD in Second Language Acquisition and spend lots of time reading gorgeously bound books and drinking interesting tea.
