I've been missing my kitchen stuff and a lot of my shoes.  I did manage to get a lot over in the past 8 months or so, but its never enough.  I have a lot of free time as I'm not working and I've been cooking, a lot.  I keep thinking - if I only had that pan, or my pastry brush!  Seems silly to continually re-buy things here when I have perfectly good versions of them in my parents basement!

Also, I love shoes.  I have a lot of shoes.  I only have about 8 pairs here.  I did get almost all of my clothes over here though.

I hear you about the kitchen stuff. I find it hard to justify buying something when I have the Pampered Chef version in mom's basement, intending to get it here 'someday'. There are some things we have just had to get again, but I tried to get a lesser version to tide me over until I can get the good stuff here.

While I don't have tons of shoes, I do find myself missing some of them that are still being stored at mom's. I know they will be coming over our next trip back, and would have come back after our trip this summer, but I went a little nuts at the Yankee Candle store and buying ornaments at the Santa Claus Christmas Store, so there wasn't much room with all the clothes I wanted to bring back.

I doubt I'll ever see my stuff again.  I had 2 large boxes of kitchen stuff, some things I had been saving from my childhood, and some decorative stuff.  Shortly after I moved over, my sister and mother had a good ole time going through my stuff and pilfering what they wanted.  Last I heard, my mother sold a lot of it in a yard sale.  Yeah.. Lovely family I have. Don't miss them a bit!

Unless your able to ship everything (I didn't because I didn't really have things worth the cost of shipping) there's always something missing.  I was only able to bring over 10 Christmas ornaments, one family heirloom tea cup (from my grandmothers wedding china).  It's sad that my kids won't sleep in the crib I did or that I had to say good bye to my flat screen!

I'm fortunate in that I was able to store everything I didn't want to part with in mom's basement, and that no one will go through it or take it. We can bring things back with each trip, after shipping some at insane costs, just to get it here. Plus, we know we will eventually go back 'someday', so there will be some things we just won't bring over and they will be there for us.

We only shipped eight boxes over, but as much as they cost, we will just pay for an extra suitcase or two to get them back over when we do decide to move. That might be in five years or it might be twenty.

I believe our record players (yes, plural  ::)) are from the US, but theyre the ones proper DJs use (Technics model from the late 70s to mid 80s) and have had no issues with timings or whatever. It could be that as theyre a high end model, they just work (if still made would cost about £600 each)??

Edit: we bought ours used and we're at least the 3rd owner, so paid no where the £600 retail price for the two of ours

Oooh! I hope this is true! I have this fantastic record player that looks like an old timey radio with a CD player and radio as well. I love it and definitely don't want to leave it behind! Of course, it's heavy, so shipping would be spendy. Does this mean my hand blender might work, too? I love that thing (plus it was a gift from my parents!) I use it all winter making soups!

Couldnt tell you, sorry. I know a few people have brought those things over and they worked using a step up converter...

I dont know what the original owners have done to our record players, but it has a UK plug on the back.. The record players came with the instructions, that said printed in the USA, so thats what Ive based my assumptions on....

Oh I don't care how much it costs ALL my shoes are coming with me as well as my clothes, jewelery and beauty products hehe. I'm looking into a smaller shipping container to ship my daughter's entire bedroom. I want her to be as comfortable as possible. She's only been on a plane once, has autism and is very used to a schedule here. So the transition has to go as smoothly as possible for me. I want at least one room to feel like home to her ya know? :)

Shoes are a real drag -- you can usually only take 2 or 3 pairs over with you each trip. They take up a lot of room in your suitcase and are relatively heavy. You can stuff socks and stuff inside them but still ...
(DS is a size 14 so one pair takes up most of his duffle! Fortunately he doesn't have very many pairs.)

Taxi! (sometimes, it's worth the cost! Maybe Heathrow Express it to London, then taxi?)

Heathrow to my bf's car to Nottingham hehe another crisis averted! ;) If I have to give up furniture, my car etc.. then I'm taking all of my clothes, shoes, accessories and beauty products! FAIR TRADE in my book hahahaha :D

I've been doing a lot of replacement shopping.  Somehow I managed to miss place my favorite coat while moving.  Luckily I found one at TK Max, marked down to £5 from £69.99.  Sorry, just feel like I need to tell everyone!

I am TOTALLY going to use this argument! (And I've already given away a lot of clothing in my pre-move move. [living with the parents for the next year to save moolah.])
