I just finished the book Marabou Stork Nightmares by Edinburgh's own Irvine Welsh....It was definately disturbing! But at the same time sad.  I really couldn't put it down and just felt the need to reach out and help the main character....if you liked Trainspotting try this book

Irving Welsh is one of my favs. I agee, MSN was quite disturbing. Have you read Filth? The idea of a tapeworm having more of a conscience than a police officer makes me chuckle even now!

Not so much pedantry as Testy Typing Teacher, but carry on, carry on . . .  ;)

I've just started a reread of I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith. I have three books on my shelf to read next; The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler and Lost in America: A journey with my father by Sherwin Nuland, and Birds of a Feather by Jacqueline Winspear.

I loved "I Capture the Castle!" Have you seen the film? It was shot here at our local castle (www.manorbiercastle.co.uk). It's directly opposite my house, and I worked there last summer. Unfortunately I hadn't moved here yet when they were filming. My cousin Daisy was an extra, though! And her name is even in the credits!

Grab it off him and run!  ;D  There was some talk about making "Porno" into a movie, but I've not heard anything recently.  And he hasn't done any publishing in a while, either which is too bad. He's a very unique style that's great fun to read.

I just finished reading Snobs by Julian Fellowes.  It was a very funny satire of upper class English life.  I highly recommend it- in fact I bought the paperback version and I hate wasting a book so if anyone fancies reading it I am happy to mail it to them- just pm me about it.

'Fleshmarket Close' by Ian Rankin.  Brilliant as usual.

Now reading Hammer of the Gods... a book about Led Zeppelin.
I'm having to take it all with a pinch of salt though... i have grave doubts about this author, since he has TWICE referred to Maggie Bell as 'the English Janis Joplin'.   (Maggie Bell is SCOTTISH, ffs!!)  >:(

Just finished 'My Sister's Keeper'.  Bought it to read on the plane home Thursday, but couldn't resist.  Heartwrenching.
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

Well, everyone makes mistakes, eh? Sure hope that "stupid cow" doesn't post here - how unnecessarily hurtful that would be.

Yeah,  that was admittedly a bit harsh ... let's just say there is 'history' between me and this other poster i mentioned.    If you knew her, though... you'd agree!  :-X

Apologies to anyone who was offended, but... if this *was* so 'hurtful', did it really need to be dragged back up after more than a month of being buried?

I don't  feel at all  responsible for comments people make about others. If it's something that shouldn't be brought up after whatever length of time then it's probably a comment that could have been foregone to begin with.
