Oooh, I really liked The Virgin Suicides.  Too bad the movie took out all of the meaning.

Reading a Sue Grafton.. R is for Ricochet.  Pretty good so far. I just picked up the rest of the No. One Ladies' Detective Agency books, The Virgin Suicides and The Princess Bride.  My bedside table is full and I'm happy!   ;D

Never read the Chronicles of Narnia... I should, just never have.

I sold a lot of Sue Grafton when I worked (and managed) a bookstore in the States, but I've never read any of the books.  I usually stick to fantasy, 'though I like a good murder mystery now and again - thus the reason why I am reading Knots & Crosses at the moment - for variety.  No. One Ladies' Detective Agency has always looked like it might be a fun little diversion.  The Princess Bride is one of my favourite films, but I've never read the book.  My husband has, so I have a copy waiting for me whenever I get around to it.

And, yes you should! :P ;D
I was born in the Summer and at Night...my mother named me AUTUMN DAWN.  True story.

Jamie's...beyond the stars and past eternity.

EMAIL or PM me for information about gigs or about booking me (solo gig) or the band.

The No. One Ladies Detective books are great.  An easy read, light and fun.  I've read 2 of the 4 so far.

I'd be a horrible bookstore employee. I'd be reading ALL THE TIME!
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Finished Knots and Crosses (by Ian Rankin), now I'm on to Hide and Seek.  This is my husband's way of seeing that I get a more "rounded" reading diet - a break from my usual high fantasy.

Just finished The Lady and the Unicorn by Tracey Chevalier -- pretty much the same story as Girl with a Pearl Earring, so not quite as impressed with this one.  Still, a decent weekend read.

Ooooh, tell me more! It's next on my list to read as it's my Book Club assignment for our June meeting. I have it, but haven't started reading it yet.

Very well written, descriptive, a mystery that draws you in and one that isn't run of the mill or predictable, good character sketches. If you like books about books and readers, and passion and love, you'll like this. I'm a big fan of Arturo Perez Reverte, and if you liked his book The Dumas Club (Johnny Depp's movie The Ninth Gate was based on it), you will like this book. If you like this book, follow it up with The Dumas Club to keep the atmosphere going. :)

PS I thought the Ninth Gate was a great movie, and I was very happy to find that it supplemented the book -- the two are stand alone as well as together, and there is a lot going on in the book that did not make it to the screen that only adds to the book and its being missing from the movie didn't detract from the movie. If that makes sense. Anyway what I mean was the movie treatment was well done and if you see the movie before the book you are not spoiling the book at all.

I don't know that one, but several years ago I read Motherless Brooklyn by Jonathan Lethem (for my book club back in the US). It was awesome! He's a good writer once you get the hang of his style, so you should enjoy it! I mention his style, but that might only have been pertinent with Motherless Brooklyn -- the main character suffers from Tourette's Syndrome, so the narrative is very jumpy and laced with random expletives!

Right now I'm reading The Shadow of the Wind (by Carlos Ruiz Zafon) for my book club.

I've just started reading The Ninth Life of Louis Drax. I'm already hooked. Only about 50 pages in and it's sad and a bit disturbing.  The coworker who lent it to me described it as being in the same tone as The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night which I quite liked but I think this book might be even better.

'Down Came the Rain' by Brooke Shields.  An open account of what it's like to have post-natal depression (I suffered it msyelf for 18 months following the birth of my daughter) and how it can strike even someone who went through years of fertility treatments for the dream of having a baby.
