No, in this case the "rub" means the "key to the issue" or "important point".  It's like saying "Ah, there's the thing."

Nope, it's Shakespeare.  Hamlet's famous soliloquy: " . . . To die, to sleep/ To sleep, perchance to dream, ay there's the rub/ For in that sleep of death what dreams may come/ When we have shuffled off this mortal coil/ Must give us pause..."

Anonymiss is saying that the problem with my argument is that the form I said was correct is actually not correct.  That's all.

Hardly.

There's the problem, difficulty, issue etc..

"I was sat" used when clearly "I was sitting" was the appropriate usage.

It's not clear at all.  It's a different way of thinking, as I explained above.  Unless you can give a better reason why you think it's wrong, there's no point continuing to argue. 

I would agree that it sounds wrong to an American English speaker, but there are things Americans say that sound wrong to British speakers.  There are more differences between the two than we necessarily recognise, until we sit down and start to analyse. 

I'm so confused.

I don't think so, since it's pretty standard in British English - I've been saying it all my life (my family is middle-class and I'm from the south-west of England) and everyone I know says it too.

People will use both 'sitting' and 'sat' here though... I guess it just depends on the person and/or the circumstances in which it's being said.

I'm not arguing.  I accept that there are situations in which it's correct.  I've just never heard it used correctly.  

My husband just told me I'm a crazy person, and people say it all of the time, and I've just not noticed it! 

From researching a bit...it seems to be used in a sort of negative sense like:

"Yesterday there was a pregnant lady standing on the bus, with a man just sat there in the seat."

"He was just sat there on the pavement with all of us stumbling over him."

I doubt the p. lady was standing on the bus. It is more likely she was standing inside of the bus.
