NMF921 I completely agree! This site is just so wonderful!(:

Btw! I just found a one way ticket on sky scanner for only $711 for Friday, the 16th through a site called Hop2... I'm a bit wary of booking through sites I'm not familiar with lol any input?
Not to mention in worried I might not get my things back to me in time! Do you think a priority application would get processed and returned within 2 and a half weeks?

FutureMrsHandy ... I've Been in there,  (SKYSCANNER) all day looking at different flights and different days, I'm seeing a slight pattern... There's a major decrease in price about a week to a week and a half before the date you want to fly out on ...

I have a feeling you WILL be hearing from & getting your stuff back very soon BUT yeah, I would be very cautious about jumping into a reservation so quickly...

Hi FutureMrsHandy.

I got the email on Friday that it had been moved and it was approved today (Tuesday). Not long at all. Our application is very simple mind.

Also, on the flight front, check out Kayak. Every time I have gone to the states and the missus has come here (7 times in the last year) I have gone through kayak every time

I just want to start by apologizing because whenever I answer questions or give updates, I never look at the names of who asked what. I kinda wing it and hope I'm in the ballpark x

Ben & Sarah, congrats. I do think the Easter holiday played a role in that extra week between upgrading and receiving the confirmation. Additionally, it also depends on how easy your visa was to process. I can say I missed a LARGE window if required documents, as I previously mentioned, but my ECO, RJ, is an absolute gem and has been so patient. Hoping to hear back this week as the new priority people have been skating along rather fast.

Second, I really do think they put us AT THE HEAD OF THE WORK QUEUE. Like not even kidding, it was an hour between the "we've upgraded you" email and the "ECO has been assigned" email. Shocking compared to the excruciating wait the past month and a half.

Zaxy, upgrade your application IMMEDIATELY or you'll be a sitting duck until August. Any other silent stalkers of this site, pay the extra $500 from the start. We ALL regret doing it this way! You're right though, this site has been a saving grace and we've become a tiny, impatient family. I would not have survived this process without you AND I would have been here until 2016 waiting to go home!!

6 March: application completed

28 April: Sheffield confirms upgrade to priority
28 April: assigned to an ECO, requests more documentation

Lol I'm just nervous about booking through a site that I've never really heard of because I don't know how reliable it would be... All the best prices for the flights I'm looking at are from site like "Hop2" or "GetAwayASAP" when I typically always book directly through  United, or through Cheapoair... My tablet has a travel tile and it works through kayak (: so I've been checking that quite regularly as well... I'm serious coming airline crazy! I can have anywhere between 5-10 tabs open at at time trying to compare prices at all different dates...

Should I expect a "your application was assigned to an ECO" email? Is it common to receive one? Or is just the "moved to the head of the queue" and then "decision made" (assuming no other documents are needed)?

I know I'm not the best one to answers that last question ... But remember, during this whole process I only received one email stating that my application arrived there ... So I wouldn't worry too much if you don't get anything ...

I know what you mean about multiple tabs .... I'm working off my iPod and I keep loosing where I put different sites LOL ...

I have used cheapoair before ...  And I liked it, I had never heard of it before it popped up on me in another search engine, took a chance and was pleased with it ... A co worker of my hubby has booked through SKYSCANNER before (from the UK to Australia) and he was really happy with the results ... He is actually the one who told us about it ...

My package was almost three pounds when we mailed it and it was 1.7 pounds when it was sent back.  Cost me $100 to get it overnighted and delivered on Saturday before Easter. But so worth it as I was originally told it would not leave the Sheffield FedEx office until Tuesday because it had been picked up to late.

RJ was my ECO as well he was super nice when I had to send him a copy of my sons birth certificate. Did not know it but it was approved the day I emailed the birth certificate off to him.

So I just bit a small bullet and decided to reserve a flight through United for $8.99 for three days to buy me some time and hold the ticket price of $1,242 for a flight on the 16th... Hopefully I hear something by Friday! Unless when I do get my "decision email" there is a cheaper flight for another day!(: lol

I received a personal email from RJ because I'm a putz. Expect a simple "you've been moved to the head of the queue" email and a "decision made" email.

Kayak is generally the best for any travel. I'm sorry I cannot offer any advice in this area. My sister in law works for United and I fly standby. Make friends with someone who works for an airline. I only pay about $400 round trip. DONT be afraid to ask your mother's brother's life partner's sister to use a buddy pass. They have a LOT.

Futuremrshandy, I'd recommend buying just a one way ticket. Since you'll have a settlement (or fiance) visa, you won't need a return ticket. For cheapoair or any plane ticket site, you should always be taken to the airline's specific site when you're paying for the flight

I would also suggest searching Vayama or Skyscanner with just the one way feature ticked.  We scored fantastic economy+ seats near the holidays Chicago-Stockholm using Vayama for one way seats that SAS wouldn't let us book on their site, that were far cheaper than round trip tickets located back in (the world's worst) economy.

Ok that price makes sense for a round trip .... I have seen for the 13th one ways going as low as $515.00 ....

The reason why I will most likely end up booking a round trip ticket is because of where I live, round trip is cheaper than one way about 99% of the time lol
And I wish I knew someone who knew someone who knew someone... Lol but alas, I don't :( I'm left to my own devices to find cheap airfare....

Sarahb083, also cheapoair does everything through their own site, until you receive your airline confirmation number, then you can move over to the united site to finish the rest of it (basically just choosing your seats)

BertineC, thanks for that! I'll try checking that website(:
